BSP’s Naseemuddin Siddiqui Leads Mob Asking 12-year Old Girl Be ‘Served’ To Them

The protests over objectionable remarks by BJP’s expelled functionary Dayashankar Singh against BSP chief Mayawati, took a turn for the worse when senior BSP leader Naseemuddin Siddiqui led a mob of party workers who abused Dayashankar’s wife, 12-year old daughter and sister. The mob demanded that the women from Dayashankar’s family be “served” to them.

Dayashankar Singh was removed from his party post and expelled from BJP, and an FIR under SC/ST Atrocity Act lodged against him, for his remark that Mayawati breaks her agreement to sell party tickets to aspiring candidates if a higher bidder comes along, and thus suffers lesser credibility than a sex-worker. Singh’s comment was condemned by BJP’s state unit chief, Keshav Prasad Maurya, who apologized and warned party workers to control their tongue. Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha and Union finance minister Arun Jaitley too condemned Singh’s remark.

However, the ensuing protests in UP by BSP workers have so traumatized Dayashankar’s family that his wife and minor children have had to flee to an undisclosed location. This news report describes the trauma which the family has suffered –

Nasim uncle, mujhe batayein kahan aana hai aapke paas pesh hone ke liye (Naseem uncle, tell me where I have to present myself),” asked the traumatised minor daughter of expelled BJP functionary Dayashankar Singh. The 12-year-old was addressing BSP member Naseemuddin Siddiqui while her mother looked on.

On the day BSP workers laid siege to Lucknow, the family of the man they were targeting was holed up at an undisclosed location out of fear. BSP workers were protesting against the foul language used by Dayashankar about Mayawati. But some of their own slogans directly targeting his daughter and family left a deep scar on the family’s psyche. Dayashanker’s wife and minor kids, especially his daughter, a class 7 student at a prestigious school, said they were pained and anguished by reactions against them on social media and TV.

Dayashanker’s wife Swati, a former lecturer at Lucknow University, said BSP protesters have been using “highly derogatory” words against them. “What crime has my daughter committed that BSP workers are abusing us,” asked Swati. “If the same words can hurt Mayawatiji, why will they not hurt us, particularly my daughter. She has gone through acute mental trauma after she heard the nasty words inflicted on her,” said Swati, who also has a son. The family, she said, has been getting threats and is on the move to escape any untoward incident.

“If anything happens to us, the BSP leadership will be responsible for it,” said the wife of the leader who has gone underground after being sacked from the party. “The law will take its course on what my husband said… but he should not be punished four times for one crime,” said Swati.

Sitting beside her mother, the 12-year-old girl broke down again, watching a news clip. “Isn’t it a crime when somebody in full public view asks for a minor girl,” she said. “She was taken to the doctor and might have to be hospitalised if she fails to recover from this trauma,” said Swati.

The below video shows Dayashankar’s wife Swati talking about the abuse directed at her family –

Even Dayashankar Singh’s aged mother has publicly apologized for his comment –

But Mayawati has refused to condemn the language and actions of her party workers, and instead offered this justification  –

Incidentally, the person leading the protests, Mayawati’s close aide and former PWD minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui, stands accused by Uttar Pradesh Lokayukta of siphoning off public money in construction of memorials during her regime. Siddiqui was also recently booked by police for making inflammatory remarks over the Dadri incident.

There is no denying that people in UP today are so disgusted with the SP regime that they look back favorably upon Mayawati’s rule. The comments against Mayawati by Dayashankar Singh are condemnable and he is paying the price for it. But the sheer hypocrisy of the ‘secular’ parties like Congress and SP, who have used worse abuse for Mayawati and even launched a murderous attack on her in the infamous UP guest house episode, is breathtaking. That, and the media hysteria over this current episode deserve to be the subject of another article.

But by failing to condemn such vulgar sexual threats against a 12-year old girl, by failing to offer any solace to Dalits who are regularly at the receiving end of Islamist violence in UP, by failing to control endemic corruption in her party, and by falling prey to the culture of hero-worship around her, Mayawati today does not offer much hope to the suffering masses in UP; her latest show of strength through these ‘protests’ notwithstanding.
