A Dalit woman was molested by Muslim youth while she was walking to a temple on Monday morning in Muradnagar, Ghaziabad district, UP. The youth threatened to kill her when she raised an alarm. The woman has alleged that police refused to act when she went to the chowki to complain. She now plans to approach the SSP.

The incident, which has been reported by Hindi daily Dainik Jagran, occurred near a Dargah on Idgah Road, Muradabad. 3 Muslim youth started passing obscene comments on the woman as she was passing. When the woman protested, the youth started molesting her. The woman then started shouting loudly, causing the youth to run away, but not before they threatened to kill her.

The distraught woman returned home instead of going to temple. When she told her family members about the incident, they went to the home of the accused to complain. But the family members of the accused abused them instead and drove them away.

Soon, members of both communities were involved in a tense face-off. The victim reached Chamunda police station with her complaint. But instead of investigating the case, police brushed her off. Many locals like Raju, Dinesh, Amit, Sumit, Sukha etc. said that Muslim youth have created a nuisance for everyone in the residential colony. Police never acts against these hooligans – in fact, their terror has increased in the last 2 months due to continued police inaction. Police station in-charge Ranvir Singh has said that investigation will be carried out in this particular case.

Muradnagar is a Muslim-majority town with Muslims 50.04% and Hindus 49.35% of the total population. In their seminal study of the 2011 census data, Dr. JK Bajaj et al from CPS (Centre for Policy Studies) have analyzed  how Muslims dominate the Urban Demography of Uttar Pradesh. One of their key findings is –

“The data strongly indicates that the rapid rise in the share of Muslims in the towns of Uttar Pradesh during the last two or three decades has involved or led to an out-migration of other communities, mainly Hindus, from several towns.” (emphasis added)

Kairana was the clearest example of how this forced migration of Hindus plays out, despite denial to this day from the secular-liberal gang. Frequent assaults on Hindu women is one of the common tactics to wear down the community and eventually force them to flee. Muslim youth molesting women of other communities, with the larger Muslim community of the area turning a blind eye to such behavior, has become such a frequent occurrence in West UP, that it cannot be treated as a random crime anymore.

Another aspect of this incident is the fact that a Dalit lady was targeted. The English language mainstream media (MSM), which is quick to pick up any rights violation of Dalits when upper-caste Hindus are involved, often going to the extent of peddling fake news as this OpIndia piece details, is muted when Dalits are at the receiving end of Muslim aggression.

In the horrific Rampur molestation case where 2 Dalit girls were molested by a gang of 14 Muslim men, media did its best to try the identity of the accused, failing which it was projected the episode as another example of ‘Indian male misogyny’.

Clearly, the secular-liberal playbook in Bharat prescribes widening the caste fault-lines within Hindu society, while brushing the  issue of Muslim aggression against all non-Muslims under the carpet.
