Muslim shopkeeper beats up roadside Hindu diya vendor and his family in Agra

A Hindu Diya vendor Rakesh and his wife and daughter were beaten up by Haji Shajad, Haji Gulam Rasool, and their friends for putting up a Diya (earthen lamp) stall. The news came to light when the video of the incident went viral on social media.

The incident pertains to the Shahganj Police jurisdiction where Rakesh had set up a temporary stall to sell earthen lamps along with posters for the upcoming Diwali festival. On seeing this an angry Rasool began abusing Rakesh and when the latter objected, Rasool and Shajad gathered their friends and attacked Rakesh, his wife, and daughter. They even threw away Rakesh’s wares.

At a time when the Prime Minister has called for people to be vocal for local and support local producers who are facing a crisis due to the pandemic, this incident has shocked social media users as the video went viral.

According to the available information, a case has been registered with the local police against each other by both parties and an investigation in the matter is ongoing.
