Cops were chased away from a mosque after being beaten up in Bagalkot of Karnataka by Muslims praying at the local Mosque on Eid. The Islamists were not socially distancing and were bunched together without wearing masks while praying. When the police arrived to dissuade them they turned aggressive and a crowd chased the cops away. A steady rise in the number of cases has made Karnataka go for a lockdown curfew from April 28th till the 24th of May.
Interestingly the same police force was seen beating up ordinary motorists running petty errands with lathis a couple of days ago in the same town. That aggression was nowhere to be seen in the case of the mosque visitors. The Superintendent of Police did lecture about Covid-19 and lockdown on twitter though and promised that the culprits will ‘face the law’.

But the question remains as to why it was not immediately even after cops were sent scuttering. After all, Eid does not come every day. Is it one rule of law for Hindus and another for Muslims?
Elsewhere in Karnataka, police were seen operating with a heavy hand while enforcing the lockdown. A women police officer was seen beating a transgender and grabbing her by her hair when the victim resisted by holding the lathi. The cop then proceeds to cruelly use her stick even as the lady gets ready to enter the police vehicle.
Finally, when they realize that the woman is bleeding from the beating, they released her. Interestingly the victim was standing in front of a medical shop and there were at least half a dozen men waiting to buy medicines in the same video. Why did the lady cop target this particular victim is unknown?
Are weapons to be used only on the Hindus and the vulnerable? The lenient, almost servile, treatment for Muslim crowds breaking the law and heavy-handedness with ordinary Hindus seems to have become a pattern of our law enforcement across the country.
