J&K admin on a cleansing spree- 11 including sons of Hizbul chief sacked from government jobs

11 employees of the Jammu and Kashmir government have been sacked by the governor after it came to be known that they had links with terror outfits. Two of them have been identified as sons of Hizbul Mujahideen chief. Two others from the police department of the J&K government have been dismissed for acting as overground workers of terrorist organisations.

Among the dismissed employees four were working in the Education Department, two in J&K Police and one each in the departments of Agriculture, Skill Development, Power, SKIMS and Health. Syed Ahmad Shakeel and Shahid Yousuf, sons of the Hizbul Mujahideen chief Salahuddin, worked in the education department and Sher E Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences Srinagar(SKIMS). They have been accused of funding terror activities.

The Indian Express reported that the NIA has tracked the financial trail of both these persons and found out that they were ‘involved in raising, receiving, collecting and transferring funds through hawala transactions’ for Hizbul Mujahideen. Apart from them, Razia Akthar, a teacher, whose father Mohammad Sultan is a member of Jamaat-e-Islami, has also been terminated from her government job. Jamaat-e-Islami is a terror outfit that was banned by the Bharatiya government in 2019. Razia was dismissed on the grounds that ‘she was involved in subversive activities which pose threat to the security and law and order’.

Two policemen also have been arrested and the charges against them are quite serious. They have been dismissed based on their anti-national activities such as  ‘providing inside information to terrorists and logistic support’. Intelligence agencies discovered that one of these constables in fact ‘executed attacks on security forces himself’.

An inspector of the Power Department has also been removed from his post for smuggling arms for Hizbul Mujahideen. He was caught red handed when he was traveling with two terrorists on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, carrying arms, ammunition and explosives last year. All the 11 have been dismissed by governor Manoj Sinha without the usual procedures of enquiry. Section 311 (2) (c) grants the governor the power to dismiss a government employee in “the case may be, he is satisfied that in the interest of the security of the State, it is not expedient to hold such inquiry”.

Notably the article was not applicable to J&K before article 370 was revoked. A special task force has been formed to look into the background of government employees which then refers those with terror links and anti-national background to the committee headed by J&K Chief Secretary Dr.Arun Mehta. These dismissals are said to be a part of J&K administration’s larger move to weed out those who work against the interest of Bharat and funding and promoting secessionist and terrorist activities.
