Mahant Bajrang Muni stabbed by Muslim brothers: Sitapur, UP

A Hindu Mahant (religious head) was attacked and stabbed by 3 Muslim brothers in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district on Tuesday. Angry followers and associates of the Mahant then clashed with the attackers leaving four people injured from both sides.

All including the Mahant were referred to Lucknow from the district hospital. PAC has been deployed in the area as a precaution. The DM, SP reached the spot and inquired about the whole matter. The incident occurred in Kamal Sarai village in Khairabad block of the district.

It is reported that three brothers – Laik, Salman and Atiq – claim their father bought an orchard and land on lease, while Badi Sangat’s Mahant Bajrang Muni says it is his. There have been disputes between both parties for a long time.

Atik, Laik, and Salman went to spray pesticides in the orchard on Tuesday morning. The Mahant’s people stopped them from doing this. Mahant himself reached the spot when they did not agree and stopped them from spraying pesticide, stating that the orchard belonged to him/his organization. Suddenly, the Mahant was attacked by the 3 brothers with kicks and punches. Then they stabbed him with knives injuring him at multiple parts of the body.

As soon as they got the information,  about two dozen people from the Mahant’s side reached there and beat Laik, Salman and Atik with sticks, injuring them. There was a stir in the area after the incident. The police also got into action and a large police force rushed to the spot and took the injured to the district hospital.

Meanwhile, DM Vishal Bhardwaj and SP RP Singh reached Kamal Sarai and inquired about the case. Till late evening, the DM & SP stayed at the Khairabad town post and kept taking updates. A large number of PAC and police forces have also been deployed at Kamal Sarai as a precautionary measure.

CO City Piyush Kumar Singh said that both parties had a dispute over a path/right of way, which was resolved. Now Laik claims to have a transferable land lease and the dispute occurred when he went to spray medicine. The Mahant’s side has lodged a complaint and a case has been filed. The other side’s complaint will be lodged too.
