TN BJP legal wing secretary’s office set on fire

Tamil Nadu BJP’s legal wing functionary Ashwathaman’s office was set on fire by unruly elements. A team led by Legal Wing Chief Paul Kanagaraj and State General Secretary Karu.Nagarajan has filed a complaint with the Chennai police commissioner and requested him to find the anti-social forces behind this incident as soon as possible.

Ashwathaman, secretary of BJP state unit’s legal wing has an office in front of the Madras High Court. Due to Covid-19 induced lockdown, he is said to have locked his office and left for his native in Ulundurpet on March 24. As the restrictions are being eased now, he returned to Chennai and went to open the office on June 14. To his horror he found his office full of soot and most of the things burnt except the files and documents.

Suspecting that it might be due to a short circuit in the electrical line, he tried switching on the lights and fan which operated perfectly well. The office is said to have a sliding window which can be opened from outside. A new object which Ashwathaman claims doesn’t belong to his office was found inside near the sliding window. In primary investigation the object is suspected to have caused the fire. Police inspected the office and seized objects of suspicion and are investigating the case.

Ashwathaman appears on Tamil news channel debates representing BJP. He is very vociferous on social media about DMK’s anti-Hindu and anti-development politics. The fire has raised suspicions that it could be an attempt to suppress his critical voice.
