Journalist reveals how Saudi Arabia sponsors Islamism in Bharat

According to a Kerala journalist, Saudi Arabia is using radical organizations like the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind to propagate Islamism in Bharat. Muslim women are being forced to change the way they have dressed for centuries and are being asked to cover their faces. It seems huge monetary gains are involved in this nefarious scheme of things that promotes Islamism.

The confirmation came from MP Basheer, a well-known journalist, who is a former Executive Editor of the India Vision news network, during a now viral Clubhouse chat. According to him, in 2014 T Arif Ali (then the Assistant Amir), secretary-general of the radical Islamic organization Jamaat-e-Islami Hind asked Basheer to meet him at his Thiruvanthapuram office. In the office, he was given instructions to be followed in his news channel :-

  • Basheer was to interfere and ask his women employees to cover their faces during broadcasts.
  • Ali specifically named three Muslim women, Nadeera Ajmal, Fousiya, and V Shabana, and accused them of disrespecting Islam by not wearing the Hijab.
  • Ali subtly warned that the ‘un-Islamic’ conduct of the women reporters, gave a wrong message to Muslims in the country.

Of those three, one now works with the Bengaluru bureau of a news channel and the rest are not in journalism now. This gives rise to the suspicion that these women wee chased out of a profession by Islamists in a secular country.

Soon enough India Vision news too shut down which makes one suspect the truth behind Basheer’s revelations. It was done discreetly, mentioning non-payment of salaries and tax arrears and the whole saga ended with the arrest of their Director on the 4th of March 2015. Owned by Muslim League MLA and ex-Minister Dr. MK Muneer, the news network was in business since 2003.

What Basheer reveals is even more controversial. He confirmed that he had accessed a letter, written by Jamaat-e-Islami requesting the King Abdul Aziz University in Saudi Arabia to increase the financial grant to the radical Islamic organization so that they could create awareness and promote Pardah culture in Kerala and India. This is part of a global project at Islamization sponsored by Saudi Arabia. By whitewashing it as the personal choice of women we are gravely underestimating ground realities.

Basheer says that it all began as recently as 30 years ago when the Saudis started this Islamic project aimed at changing the way Muslim ladies dress in Kerala for the past hundreds of centuries. He also said that top Muslim Islamists and journalists in Bharat were employed to assist them in this nefarious design, all allegedly paid by King Abdul Aziz University. He mentioned two names, both PFI active cadre masquerading as journalists, O Abdulla and O Abdurahman.

They used political intervention to make Hijab mandatory across all madrassas, Arabic colleges, associated organizations, and the media. This is all part of this huge cultural project he added. Nothing is being done to prevent Saudi Arabia from sponsoring radical groups in Bharat to propagate a pardah culture says a Muslim journalist from Kerala.

Islamism as an ideology is dangerous and should be curbed strictly in Bharat. Jamaat-e-Islami has promoted pan Islamism since it was founded by Syed Abul Ala Maududi in 1941 in Lahore. He believed that nationalism in any form was un-Islamic and promoted Sharia laws including the veiling of women. Maududi opposed the creation of Pakistan only because he feared its founders like Mohammad Ali Jinnah to be ultra-liberal. He argued that the division of India violated the Islamic doctrine of ‘one Muslim community’ and believed that the partition would separate Muslims by a temporary boundary. Later he used his access to Pakistani elites to gradually Islamize its education, laws and constitution that transformed Pakistan from a Muslim homeland into an Islamic state in 1970s.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind is the Bharatiya branch of Maududi’s organisation. Its branches in Bangladesh has been banned, while that in Kashmir is designated a terror organisation and banned.  Maududi saw his group as a vanguard of the Islamic revolution following the footsteps of early Muslims who had gathered to found the first “Islamic state”. Jamaat-e-Islami was and is strictly organised in a pyramid-like structure, a corporate ladder with the party leader (Amir) on top. Except for the ‘elite’, supporters could not become members. Such supporters were/are “affiliates”, and “sympathizers” beneath the top leadership.  All supporters work toward the common goal of establishing an ideological Islamic society, under the leadership of the Amir/ Emir. They were twice banned in Bharat and now have a political outfit, the secretive Welfare Party of India, headed by father of Umar Khalid. They have more than 2 lakh ‘followers’ on Facebook, mostly Keralite Muslims.
