Shahida, a 30-year-old Madrassa teacher killed her six-year-old son by slitting the boy’s throat. Local media reported that she told the police that she killed the boy as a sacrifice to appease Allah. It is being said that she informed the police that she had a calling from Allah in the early hours of Sunday, asking her to sacrifice her third child. This prompted her to commit the gruesome crime.

The shocking incident happened at Poolakkad in the Palakkad district of Kerala. Apparently, she committed the crime in the wee hours of Sunday, before turning herself in to the police authorities. 

Shahida tied up the boy’s legs, woke him up in the wee hours, took the child to the washroom, and cut his throat. She then informed the police control room and the cops found her waiting for them near the gate of their house. 

Ameel is survived by two brothers, one aged eleven and another eight. Shahida is also pregnant with her fourth child. Apparently, she had taken a leave of absence from the Madrassa where she teaches after she became pregnant and was resting at home.

Her husband, Sulaiman, and the two other kids were sleeping in another room, and it is reported that they were unaware of the murder. They came to know about the crime only when the cops arrived. Sulaiman, a Gulf returnee, works as a driver. It seems he had come home late the previous night.

Shahida had earlier obtained the phone number of the nearest police station from her neighbors which makes this case pre-planned. The dastardly act has shocked neighbours and the entire village has been traumatized by this incident.

Shahida had asked Sulaiman to buy a new knife which he did while coming home on Saturday night. This knife was used for the killing and has now been recovered by the police. The police FIR mentions that the crime was committed deliberately and she has been charged under Section 302 of the IPC.

The local police have remained tight-lipped and have informed that an investigation is on into the entire episode and chronology of events that led to this filicide. Palakkad Superintendent of Police and the forensics team arrived at the scene and conducted the preliminary investigations. The body was removed to the district hospital for a post mortem and was buried in the evening. Shahida has been arrested and the husband and wife duo are both being questioned by the police.

Local media have now confirmed that she had links with radical religious ideologies on social media. There are also reports that she wanted a place to pray and offer namaaz in the police station and that the police have obliged her request!
