Christian missionaries who were proselytizing and indulging in conversion activities at the Perunthalaiyur Bhavani river near the Shiva Mandir located at Erode District’s Appakudal Town were confronted and chased away by Hindus. In recent times, proselytization by evangelical missionaries is on the rise but Hindus have also woken up to this and are increasingly confronting these missionaries.
In Appakudal town, Erode district, Tamil Nadu., few Christians went to the Perunthalaiyur Bhavani river near the Shiva temple for Baptism YES & seeing this rubbish the local people confronted them & made them vacate @missionkaali @Saffronkoffee @SaffronDalit @HLKodo @itz_katti https://t.co/SXnONewAx3

In the video, a Hindu devotee can be seen confronting a group of evangelical Christian missionaries comprising of a padre and a woman evangelist among others. They had apparently conduct Baptism when locals resisted and asked the missionaries to stop their conversion activities. The person confronting them even warned the missionaries saying he would call the police.
The conversation between the Hindu local and the evangelical woman is along these lines.
Hindu: Why are you missionaries carrying out your proselytizing activities here?
Evangelical: Don’t you people carry out Hindu devotional activities in public places?
Hindu: Let me call the police
Evangelical: call the police, so what if the police arrives
Hindu: Who are you missionaries to carry out evangelical activities at our holy places?
Evangelical: who are you to question us?
Hindu: I belong to the Hindu majority and I’ll definitely question when you missionaries carry out such activities and try to convert people
Evangelical: did we ask you to convert?
Hindu: but why are you doing such proselytization at our places? We belong to this village and we will question anyone who tries to convert our people at public places and near our temples. We Hindus of this area learnt that missionaries have arrived here to carry out conversion activities and have hence come to put an end to this. If we see you missionaries here again then you’ll be confronted in a different way.
Evangelical: I dare you to call the police.
The Hindu devotee then goes on to call the police and inform them about the evangelical missionaries who have arrived at Perunthalaiyur Bhavani river near the Shiva Mandir for their proselytizing activities. He says that a lady has come to the Perunthalaiyur river with 2-3 padres and is conducting Baptism by converting Hindus. These people should be conducting such activities only within the Church premises and when we confronted them they are audaciously saying that they will continue to carry out their conversion activities.
The devotee then goes on to say that the evangelical missionaries are proselytizing to Hindus living in colonies located in and around the temple. When we locals confronted them, they are daring us saying that they will not stop and we can call the police. There are a total of seven people in the group. We have captured the entire episode in the video.
The Hindu also informed the police that he and the other locals learnt about the arrival of the missionaries from the poojari of the Shiva Mandir and Hindus staying in the colony near the temple. He said that this was the first time he has seen missionaries in this area and that when he confronted them the woman questioned him as to how Hindus could carry out their religious activities at public places but not Christians. Why should missionaries carry out their evangelical activities at public places? Let them limit themselves to the church premises.
Hindus have become increasingly aware of the proselytization by Christian missionaries who often choose Hindu temples for evangelism. Only recently a video showing transgenders driving away Christian missionaries who were proselytizing in front of Bokkapuram Mari Amman temple in Nilgiris, Tamilnadu was doing the rounds on social media.
Ordinary Hindus have now started resisting proselytization by Christian missionaries and are confronting them in keeping with the saying ‘धर्मो रक्षति रक्षितः’ (Dharma protects those who protect it). The entire shloka reads धर्म एव हतो हन्ति धर्मो रक्षति रक्षितः । तस्माद्धर्मो न हन्तव्यो मा नो धर्मो हतोऽवधीत् – Manusmriti Chapter 8, Verse 15, meaning “If protected, Dharma protects; if slain, it slays; therefore I shall never renounce Dharma; lest Dharma, being slain, may slay ourselves”.
Hindus are now waking up and following this tenet while fighting the conversion mafia. The fightback has begun and the ‘tame and tolerant’ Hindu has discovered the lion sleeping within him/her. Time for Abrahamics to pack their bags and try proselytizing elsewhere?
