UP Muslim man who embraced Hindu Dharma receiving threats

A Muslim man named Qasim in UP’s Aligarh recently embraced Hindu Dharma to become Karamveer. The man has now alleged that he and his family have been receiving threats and accordingly the UP  police has accorded him protection.

26-year-old Kasim recently became a Hindu by undergoing the necessary rituals under the guidance of Arya Samaj. Speaking on the occasion the man now known as Karamveer said “I’m of the opinion that my ancestors were not the descendants of Babur but were Hindus. I wanted to return to the Dharm of my ancestors and hence I underwent the process of Ghar Wapsi with my entire family. I have embraced Hindu Dharma out of choice and not under any pressure”.

Kasim married a Hindu woman Anita in 2012 and the couple has two children. The two had married according to Hindu rituals and Kasim then got their marriage registered in the court. Anita said that she didn’t convert to Islam after marriage. Her husband continued to be a Muslim yet he avoided performing namaz in Anita’s presence and would often go out to perform namaz. Anita is happy with Kasim’s Ghar wapsi.

The man reached the SSP office yesterday asking for protection stating that he and his family have been receiving threats from some criminal minded Muslims. Based on his complaint the Aligarh police have given him protection. Speaking on the issue, the Superintendent of Police (crime) Arvind Kumar said “we have registered a case based on the complaint filed by the man. He has alleged that he is being threatened by some people so we have deployed security at his residence”.

Islamists often threaten those leaving the Islamic fold even if they do so out of their own free will. Earlier a case of forced circumcision of a Hindu man by a maulana (Islamic preacher) had come to light in Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. As per reports, he had married a Muslim woman who had then embraced Hindu Dharma. The man was, however, being threatened by one Maulana Riyazuddin from Kharkhuada area of Meerut to either convert to Islam or leave his wife.

Muslim society has a high level of intolerance to those leaving the Islamic fold even if those doing so do it voluntarily.
