UP police arrests maulvi for attempting to get a Hindu girl secretly married to a Muslim boy

Acting on a tip-off the UP police arrested two people including a maulvi (Islamic cleric) in a late-night raid in Gurmiya Village located in Uttar Pradesh’s (UP) Khushinagar on Tuesday.

As per the statement issued by the police, the bride and groom are outsiders and are said to have absconded when the police arrived on the scene. Police officer Rambilas Yadav stated that they received an anonymous tip-off late yesterday evening and the caller alleged that one Armaan had provided shelter to a Hindu girl and Muslim boy who had come from outside at his residence in Gurmiya village.

The caller further said that the two were set to get secretly married in a nikah (Islamic wedding) ceremony. The secrecy behind the entire episode is believed to have raised suspicion and led the caller to inform the police regarding the same.

On receiving the call the station officer immediately alerted the higher authorities who ordered him to immediately conduct a raid. Accordingly, the police force arrived at the spot at around 8 at night. However, on seeing the police the bride and groom ran away.

The police have further informed that they have arrested the maulvi and one Imran from the spot and further investigations are ongoing. The UP police are thoroughly investigating the case to see if there is a grooming (love jihad) angle to the case.

The UP government has passed an anti-grooming law to deal with the menace of grooming where Hindu girls, including minors, are being trapped in the name of love and then forcibly converted to Islam.
