Hypocrisy has a new name, and its Taapsee Pannu

The actress has stayed in news, less for her acting chops and more for the controversy she created on social media. Her PR agency does a good job selling her theatrics to the news agencies too. But in most cases, the B’town tier-2 celebrity manages to get on to the headlines for her pseudo liberal and selective secular stances.

Taapsee has sounded off many times on how her real-life worldview coincides with the sickular ideals portrayed in her anti-Hindu movie Mulk, which has made her a darling of the liberal brigade.

Taking a few steps further in her Hindu-hating stance, Taapsee Pannu, who hails from a Jatt- Sikh family, took a dig at the landmark verdict passed on the Ayodhya Ram mandir case on November 9th, 2019.

The unanimous judgement delivered by a bench of five SC judges, one being a Muslim himself, ruled in favor of the Ram Mandir. The judgement was awaited by generations, had seen a struggle of 500 years, and many have laid down their lives to have a grand Mandir of Ram Lalla Virajman at the site.

The Ram Mandir and the land of Janmabhoomi is held holy by millions of Hindus worldwide. The Bollywood actress assumed it would be funny and make her look ‘cool’ if she played with the religious sentiments of a community which has faced relentless persecution for the last millennium.

After receiving an earful from netizens on twitter, she sent out another tweet with an intention of damage control but couldn’t help being snide even in the second attempt which too reeked of underhanded sarcasm.

It is worth noting, that when it comes to her own faith, Sikhism, Ms. Pannu is very sensitive and steeped in faith. November 9th, 2019 was also the day when Pakistan opened the Kartarpur corridor for Sikhs in Bharat. Ms. Pannu couldn’t contain her gratitude and sent a tweet expressing this emotion just a couple of hours before mocking and chiding Hindus for holding dear a holy spot central to their faith.

It’s worth noting that a country with almost 80% Hindu majority, the “victimized” minority gets two large chunks of land to form a nation founded on their faith, but the Hindus, often termed intolerant, waited for 70 longs years to get the temple of their Ram Lalla built in a land that has been comprehensively proven to be a place of their significance by the Archeological Survey of India.

It is this very tolerance of the Hindus, that bestows the sub-standard hypocrites with the status of ‘intellectuals’, allows them to earn their fame by mocking the Hindu faith, and then laugh their way to the bank by getting their livelihood from the ever-tolerant Hindus.

In countries like Bangladesh or Pakistan, such self-styled intellectuals often find themselves behind bars for blasphemy or are forced to flee the country and take refuge in some foreign nation and spend their lives in exile.
