Yet another Christian evangelical organisation masquerading as a social welfare NGO has been brought to the attention of the authorities. Indigenous legal activist group LRPF (Legal Rights Protection Forum) has written to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) bringing to light the FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act 2010) violations by Coimbatore-based ‘Serve India Ministries’ which is registered as a child welfare NGO but has been indulging in Christian evangelism and religious conversion activities. This NGO is being run by its President, Ebenezer Samuel, and Treasurer, Angeline Samuel.
LRPF has pointed out the various discrepancies in the NGO’s stated objectives on Darpan, the Bharatiya Government website meant for NGOs, and tax returns filed by it in USA. While it lists itself as an organisation working in the field of ‘educating children and other child welfare activities’ in Bharat, its US tax returns states that it is an evangelical mission organisation with the aim of reaching the ‘most unreached people’ with the ‘Gospel of Jesus Christ’. It has also been learnt that a substantial amount of FCRA funds are being invested in fixed deposits.
Not only is this Christian evangelical body indulging in FCRA violations but also propagating lies and circulating demeaning material about Hindu religion in an attempt to convert gullible Hindus. Besides it is promoting ‘miracle cures’, in violation of Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act 1954, with the aim of trapping those Hindus who may be suffering from health, financial or family problems.
What’s worse is that it is making use of minors for evangelism and bible preaching activities. Several videos and DVDs have been created for consumption of donors in America and other foreign countries where Ebenezer is presented as a man who intends to change an 80% Hindu majority country into a Christian one.
In yet another sinister move, the NGO makes use of women to preach the gospels by first befriending Hindu women and extracting information regarding their problems, be it financial, health, drunkard husbands or any other issue. These women preachers then brainwash the innocent women with false stories of people having overcome their problems by hearing the gospel, attending the church and finally converting to Christianity.
The horror doesn’t just end here. The NGO is actually on a mission to destroy Hindu families by turning son/daughter against their parents, targeting housewives whose husbands are away at work and then forcing them to prevail over their husbands to convert as well and many such despicable acts which Samuel boasts about to his audiences abroad.
In all of his speeches Ebenezer uses the most derogatory language for Hindu religion using terms like ‘Hindu gods are dead’, ‘faraway gods’, referring to Hindu deities as ‘satans’ and oppressive, revengeful gods who are always ready to pour their wrath on their followers and other such demeaning, hateful remarks.
He makes false claims of Dalits and other backward caste Hindus being harassed in the most inhuman ways by ‘Upper’ caste Hindus, and how they can only be ‘saved’ by converting to Christianity. LRPF has also pointed out how Samuel is personally involved in bible distribution, baptism and other evangelical activities and how foreigners are brought into Bharat under tourist visas but actually indulge in evangelical activities. Samuel has also been making false claims of PM Modi led government being anti-Christian and pro-Hindu. He makes baseless remarks about Christian persecution.
LRPF has requested the FCRA to take strict action against Serve India Ministries and Samuel Ebenezer whose speeches and activities clearly point out that the NGO aims to disturb communal harmony, use inducements and magic remedies as allurements to convert people to Christianity and use funds received from abroad, most of which comes from America, to spread hatred and falsehoods about Hindu Dharma. Ebenezer has also been using international forums to spread anti-national and anti-Hindu propaganda.
In the 11 page letter along with the various proofs it has provided, LRPF has appealed for freezing all FCRA inflows into the NGO’s bank accounts along with an enquiry into Samuel’s personal assets as well. LRPF has also demanded debarring foreigners who violated tourist visa norms by participating in evangelical activities and asking Ebenezer to provide proofs for his miracle healing cure claims failing which he should be barred for life from seeking FCRA funds as well as holding office in any NGO.
