Netflix’s latest offering films kissing scene in a temple

Netflix is one among several OTT content streaming platforms that regularly promotes anti-Hindu content. Hindupost has time and again reported how hitherto unregulated OTT platforms have become a hub for regularly promoting anti-Hindu web-series and movies targeting impressionable youngsters in their teens and twenties. Netflix’s latest offering A Suitable Boy, based on a novel of the same name by Vikram Seth and directed by Mira Nair, has all the stuff a “good” anti-Hindu series is made up of.

This web-series like most others promotes the usual stereotypes where Hindus are always close-minded blood-thirsty aggressors out to get good-hearted Muslims who are always progressive and victims of majoritarianism. Netflix doesn’t just stop at propagating the same old stereotypes but goes on to show three kissing scenes in a single episode between the Muslim man-Hindu woman lead pair and that too right within the temple premises.

The extent of degenracy and Aurangzebism (Hindu hatred) can be clearly understood from the fact that not only are all the three kissing scenes shot within the temple premises but against the backdrop of aarti (Hindu religious chanting).

BJYM (Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha) National Secretary Gaurav Tiwari has registered an FIR (First Information Report) against the Netflix series at Rewa in Madhya Pradesh (MP). Tiwari has rightly questioned the makers if they would dare to shoot such scenes within the mosque and that too with azaan (Islamic prayer) playing in the background. Additionally, Tiwari has also taken Netflix to task for promoting grooming (Love Jihad) and using creative freedom as a smokescreen for promoting Tanishqess content far removed from ground realities.

Acting on the complaint filed by Tiwari, MP Home Minister Dr Narottam Mishra has stated that the police officials, who were asked to conduct an inquiry as to whether the Netflix series A Suitable Boy hurt Hindu sentiments, have confirmed that the series has indeed violated the religious sentiments of Hindus by filming kissing and other derogatory scenes within the temple premises.

Following the findings of the inquiry, Dr Mishra has ordered that Netflix officials Monica Shergill and Ambika Khurana be booked under section 295A and accordingly a case will be registered against the two at Reva’s Civil Lines police station. The Reva police has issued a statement saying that they have received Tiwari’s complaint and are already looking into the matter. Further action will be taken on the completion of the investigation.

While the police are already inquiring into the controversial Netflix series’ anti-Hindu content, a larger question that needs to be asked is whether the collective silence, tolerance and chalta hai attitude has emboldened filmmakers to brazenly propagate Hindudveshi (anti-Hindu) content that is far removed from ground realities.

As already pointed out, Netflix audience is in the teenage and young adult age group, an age when their world view gets shaped and their minds are both rebellious and easily influenced by what they see on-screen especially when it is packaged like A suitable boy has been with aesthetic appeal yet carrying a heavy undertone of Aurangzebism.

The much-hyped self-regulation code signed by OTT platforms has had no impact on the stream of anti-Hindu, abuse-ridden, soft-porn and otherwise disturbing content churned out by them. With these platforms recently coming under the purview of the I&B ministry, it remains to be seen what action Minister Prakash Javadekar takes against Netflix and the makers of A Suitable Boy.
