12 arrested in Assam for kidnapping minor Hindu girl through Love Jihad trap

Muslim youth Faizul Haque pretended to be a Hindu (Ranjit Das) in order to lure and abduct a minor Hindu girl in Hojai district, Assam on 14th November.

After protests by Hindu organizations, police rescued the girl on Monday morning from an area under Mayong police station in Morigaon district, and has arrested 12 people including the main accused.

The girl is a resident of Jugijaan’s Purb Kandulimari in Hojai, and her father lodged a police complaint on the same day she went missing.

HJM (Hindu Jagran Manch) and VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) volunteers staged protests demanding immediate recovery of the girl and steps to curb the Love Jihad menace. They had submitted a memorandum to additional superintendent of police, Suman Chakraborty and circle officer (A) Nabajyoti Das.

As per a report in Northeast Now, Ashok Kejriwal, general secretary, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Hojai district said, “The lackadaisical attitude of the police in connection with the case compelled us to protest. We have given 48-hour deadline to the police to find the girl and the culprit who eloped her. If the police fail to rescue her and nab the culprit, we will have no option but to launch a statewide agitation. Hindu girls are being targeted and trapped into Love Jihad.”

Hojai superintendent of police (SP) Ankur Jain while addressing a press conference at Hojai said, “A minor girl was kidnapped five days back (Thursday) by a Muslim youth – Faizul Haque – identifying himself as a Hindu boy from Jugijaan in Hojai.”

Police have arrested Faizul Haque (main accused), Taijul Haque (uncle of the accused) and the parents of the accused. “Three other persons have also been apprehended for giving shelter to the accused,” the SP said. They are – Mohammed Imtiaz Ali, a resident under Mayong PS, his son Mohammed Mafizuddin and Mohammed Ahmed Ali, a resident of Jarigaon.

More arrests were made on Monday and Tuesday, bring the total number of those arrested to 12. The minor girl has been sent for medical examination.

The Hojai SP further said, “Many organisations created panic like situation, demonstrated against us and gave us a deadline of 48 hours to rescue the girl and nab the culprits. But we are not God that everything will happen in a second. We are also human beings. We do our duty as per the proceedings and inputs.”

Assam – hub of Islamist predators preying on Hindu girls

Assam is one of the hotspots for Love Jihad and Rape Jihad cases targeting Hindu girls and women. Hojai district, in particular, seems to be severely afflicted with this evil.

Back in June, a Hindu girl who had been kidnapped by a Muslim youth from Hojai, was rescued by police from a Nashik hotel. In September, a married Muslim man pretending to be a Hindu bachelor had kidnapped a Hindu girl in Darrang district and kept her at the homes of his married sisters. The girl was recovered after police picked up the accused’s sisters for interrogation. Later, the sisters alleged that they were assaulted and tortured by police – this made national news despite several inconsistencies in the allegations of police assault, and a police officer was suspended.

Last year, after a string of rapes, including the gruesome gang-rape and murder by burning alive of a Class 5 girl, Hojai MLA Shiladitya Dev and Khumtai MLA Mrinal Saikia had alleged that illegal Bangladeshi immigrants are involved in a majority of crimes against women. They demanded that concrete steps be taken against “illegal Bangladeshi migrants who are involved in majority rape and murder cases.”
