A shocking incident related to talaq and halala has surfaced where a 28-year old woman after divorce, entered into Halala with a 65-year old elderly man, who later refused to give divorce to her. Due to this, the woman is unable to re-marry her first husband.
As reported in Hindi daily Patrika, the woman and her first husband, both from Khatima of Uttarakhand, got married in 2010. Due to a dispute between them, husband gave divorce to her and ended the marriage. The couple had two children from the marriage. For their sake, both of them decided to reconcile the differences and thought of getting back together. But their intentions got hindered by the ritual of halala.
The relatives asked an elderly resident of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh for halala and on 25th November, 2016, she was married off to the elderly man. However, after the marriage, the mind of the elderly changed and he refused to give divorce to the woman. Now she is unable to get back to her previous husband.
To get rid of the elderly, the woman has pleaded for help from Farhat Naqvi, President of Mera Haq Foundation.
