A shocking incidence of Islamist bigotry has come to light recently. According to a video shared on social networking site twitter, A R Rehman’s family showed extreme intolerance of Hindu Dharma in his presence.

It was revealed by poet and lyricist Piraisoodan, he once visited the house of A R Rehman while sporting vibhuti and kumkum. Both of these are applied by crores of devout Hindus, specially Tamils, every day. Indeed, Piraisoodan is spotted with both in all of his photos. A R Rehman’s mother Kareema Begam asked him not to apply vibhuti and kumkum, whenever he visited their house!

It is pertinent to mention here that Piraisoodan is no ordinary poet himself. A R Rehman achieved his fame while directing music for advertisement jingles written by him. He has been awarded Tamil Nadu State Best Lyricist Award thrice and has written songs for dozens of movies. Apparently, Rehman was also there and munching some snack while sitting on a swing, but said nothing.

Readers might remember that A R Rehman was born a Hindu. His family converted to Islam after his sister fell seriously ill and a Sufi told his family to convert to save the girl’s life. Soon Dileep Kumar became A R Rehman and his mother Kasturi Shekhar became Kareema Beegum. The Oscar awarded musician is not the only one from Tamil film industry to convert to Islam. Yuvan Shankar Raja, the son of Ilyaraja had also become a Muslim a few years ago.

Many other incidents of similar nature also come to mind while talking about A R Rehman. Earlier this year, her daughter Khatija shared the stage with him and was seen sporting a full burkha. There are reports that he has previously forced the lyricists to change their songs, so as to align the meaning with Islamic beliefs. In his biography, he had blamed Hindu Gods for the death of his father! All these things point to a deep seated  hatred for his former religion.

About Hindus who converted to other religions, Swami Vivekananda said “every man going out of the Hindu pale is not only a man less, but an enemy the more.” His insight has been proved right too many times. Historically, the ablest commanders of Muslim forces have been Hindus who converted to Islam. This includes Malik Kafur, Khusrau Khan and Kala Pahad who themselves were responsible for forcible conversion and massacres of lakhs of Hindus.

The ecosystem in Hindi cinema has been dominated for long by Islamists and leftists. The situation does not seem very different in Tamil cinema. Art and cinema are said to mirror the society, however in modern times it has also come to shape the society. When artists promotes a certain ideology through their art, the same is certain to make an impact on millions in present age. The battle for Hindu Dharma is thus not only in politics, academics and media, but also art and cinema.
