Andhra police personnel form ‘Soldiers for Jesus’ group

Christian Evangelists in Andhra Pradesh (AP) have got a shot in the arm ever since Jagan Mohan Reddy took oath of office as Chief Minister of the state on 30th May 2019. Be it ration cards with images of Jesus or financial assistance to Christian pilgrims, Jagan Reddy is walking the same path of Christian appeasement that his father YSR Reddy took when he was the Chief Minister. His utter disregard for Hindu deities and following Mandir rules came to the fore when he visited Tirupati Tirumala recently and did not sign the declaration form meant for non-Hindus professing faith in Sri Balaji, the presiding deity.

When the highest authority of the State, i.e. the CM, himself openly indulges in appeasement; it only emboldens the bureaucracy to follow suit. It has now come to light that certain elements in AP Police Department have formed a religious body called ‘Soldiers for Jesus – Police’. Following a complaint filed by Legal Rights Protection Forum, an NGO, to Andhra Pradesh Directorate General of Police (DGP) and Union Home Secretary their official website policebelievers.com has now been kept under ‘maintenance mode’. It is also believed that this body is set to organise a Christian religious event during Christmas at the Police Grounds in Vijayawada.

This is an open promotion of one religion over others by those in authority. Police are meant to serve the society, prevent crimes and maintain law and order without bias and favour. Proselytization is not the job of the police just like they must not have any political leanings. Earlier Hindupost had reported about Marxization of the Kerala police. How is the AP Police action any different? A person’s personal biases will most certainly interfere with his/her work and for those in authority such as the police these biases will interfere with fair delivery of justice. Earlier this year TN IAS officer Umashankar on poll duty in MP was removed as poll observer for openly professing Christianity and faith healing.

There are several instances of individual IAS or IPS officers openly promoting Christianity. In addition to this we have the problem of Crypto-Christianity which makes it difficult to estimate the number of people in positions of authority who can influence innocent Hindus (particularly illiterate & poor) and induce them into converting to Christianity. Recently, Hindupost had brought to light a project called ‘Christ Village’ and close on its heels comes the news of AP Police’s Christian evangelism. Bharat and its faith and civilization cannot be allowed to be eroded away by monotheistic faiths in general and Christianity in particular which is looking for new pastures following its decline across Europe.

Strict action against the police officers is a must to send a stern message that police force is to be secular and cannot lean towards one religion alone. If the state government looks the other way then the Centre must step in and stem the rot before the cancer spreads.
