Auto driver Mohammed Shakil Abdul Kadar Memon arrested for masturbating in front of a woman

32-year-old auto-rickshaw driver Mohammed Shakil Abdul Kadar Memon was arrested on Wednesday by Mumbai Police for allegedly flashing and masturbating in front of a young woman waiting for a cab in suburban Malad.

The woman was waiting for a cab to go home late at night on September 1 near Chincholi bunder bus stop on New Link Road, when Memon pulled over and asked her to sit inside. The woman ignored him, but Memon unzipped his pant and started masturbating.

Showing courage, the woman clicked the accused and also called up her mother. Memon later fled the spot. The victim & her mother lodged a police complaint under IPC section 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).

Memon managed to evade police for many days, but was finally traced to Malvani. During the investigation, it was found that he is a serial offender with several cases of molestation and public nuisance registered against him.

Such cases seem to be increasing in frequency. In July, an auto-rickshaw driver (33) was arrested in Kandivali, Mumbai for masturbating while looking at a woman passenger (20) in the rear-view mirror. In June, a man was arrested for masturbating on a woman inside a Gurugram metro station.

In August 2018, auto-rickshaw driver Rajbahadur Pal was arrested for masturbating in front of a woman journalist travelling in his auto in Borivali. In April 2018, Uber cab driver Shokeen Khan (driving on a forged license) was arrested in Delhi for masturbating while a woman passenger was seated.

In Aug 2017, shared auto-rickshaw driver Mohammed Irfan (29) and 2 accomplices gang-raped a woman passenger in Chandigarh, Punjab. And in August 2016, police arrested biker Rais Likayat Qureshi (35) for masturbating while looking at two teen girls travelling by auto rickshaw in Khar, Mumbai.
