Another BJP Leader Hacked to Death in Karnataka

Continuing the series of attacks on BJP activists in Karnataka, another BJP worker was hacked to death recently. Yogeesh Goudhar, a BJP local leader and Zilla Panchayat member of Hebballi constituency, Karnataka was brutally murdered by a group of men last Wednesday.

He was hacked by a group of unidentified men with lethal weapons at a gym. The murder happened in broad daylight in a residential area and he died on the spot after sustaining heavy injuries on his head and neck area.

Police has started investigation on this incident and is trying to track down eyewitnesses and CCTV footage. Few years ago his brother was also murdered in the same fashion.

According to this article, Former Chief Minister Jagdish Shettar expressed that there can be a political conspiracy behind this murder and demanded an impartial investigation on this incident.

State Home Minister G Parameshwara said, “Investigation is on in this murder, I have directed officials to nab the culprits as soon as possible. One suspicion is that there was a land dispute he was involved in.”

Dharwad District Congress In-charge Minister Vinay Kulkarni said the Chief Minister was aware of the incident. “Investigation is going on and action will be taken against those involved”, he said. When he was asked about the problems some Congress leaders had with Goudhar during the local body elections recently, he said, “During elections, blame game is common  from both sides, but that should not be counted as enmity.”

Recent Murders of Hindu activists in Karnataka

Earlier this year a BJP worker named K. Raju was murdered in Mysore city of Karnataka. The police still has no trace of any suspects in this case. He was also hacked to death in a public place at a tea shop in a similar fashion. According to this article, Prahlad Joshi, State President of BJP Karnataka suspects that K Raju was murdered because he took the initiative to build a Ganapati Mandir in his area.

Another Hindu activist, Prashant Poojary was hacked to death in Moodbidri, Karnataka last year in October. The murder was done in the same pattern – six men came on motorbikes and stabbed Prashant Poojary from behind. He later died in the hospital.

According to this statement by Sharan Pumpwell, Regional Convener, Bajrang Dal – Poojary had been actively involved in preventing illegal cow slaughter and transportation. He also said the murder was suspected to be carried out by those allegedly involved in illegal cow slaughter.

Most independent observers on the ground agree that the Congress government is failing miserably in Karnataka. The Indian National Congress is in power since 2013 in Karnataka and it has been evident that the law and order has deteriorated considerably since then.

Recently, a senior woman police officer resigned from her job, as she was threatened and was constantly getting pressurized after she took on P. T. Parameshwar Naik, Labour Minister from the ruling Congress party, who was interfering in her work. And incidents such as these are increasing, which shows the lawlessness prevailing in Karnataka during Congress rule. But this, or the jungle raj prevailing in Bihar, is not a topic of debate for the national media.
