The BJP (Bharatiya Janta Party) karyakartas continue to be at the receiving end of the relentless violence unleashed by the ruling TMC (Trinamool Congress) with yet another karyakarta being reportedly lynched to death in the most gruesome manner by TMC goons.

As per available information, the incident took place in Pathar Ghata Village in Kalna, West Bengal where BJP worker Rabin Paul was beaten to death by a mob who didn’t even give him water in his dying moments.

According to the statement issued by family members of the deceased, workers were chopping trees outside their residence under MNREGA when Paul objected to it. A verbal conflict broke out which soon turned violent.

About 50 TMC workers then lynched Paul to death where first TMC workers thrashed him and then carried him away to another village where he was beaten by TMC Deputy Chief. Having learned of the incident, the family rushed to the crime scene where the TMC goons did not even allow the victim’s daughter to give him water. Furthermore even Paul’s daughter was threatened with violence in case she tried to aid her father.

Ultimately he was shifted to the Kalna District Hospital by the police where he issued his dying statement. The police have begun investigating the matter after the family filed a complaint in this regard.

His dying testimony (originally in Bengali) says “They, who were doing the 100-day work (MNREGA) assaulted me in large numbers” and on being probed further by the reporter, he named TMC party workers as his assaulters.

The incident has once again triggered a war of words between the BJP and TMC. Not only did the official Twitter handle of BJP Bengal condemn the murder but the party’s National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya has blamed the CM Mamata Banerjee and accused her of sheltering the hooligans while adding that the violence has reached extreme limits.

TMC Kalna Chief on the other hand defended himself by blaming Paul instead and stated that it was the latter who hit him on the head. TMC has known to be indulging in making bombs and yesterday two persons associated with TMC lost their lives when a bomb they were making exploded.

But this defense falls flat considering the series of attacks that have taken place on BJP workers to date.

Recently a woman worker of BJP was allegedly shot at in South 24 Parganas’ Bishnupur by goons. Hindupost had also reported such instances in the past. BJP booth worker Sudarshan Pramanik was killed by TMC workers on Independence Day.

Pramanik’s death adds to the numerous murders of BJP leaders/workers in the state in recent weeks – Debendra Nath Roy (MLA), Purna Chandra Das (booth president), Bapi Ghosh (worker), Shakuntala Haldar (panchayat candidate), and her husband are some of the others who have been found hanging or dead in suspicious circumstances, with families alleging foul play by TMC.

It is high time the center steps in and takes cognizance of the fact that its cadres are being mercilessly murdered only for pursuing a different ideology.
