Bollywood hypocrisy revealed as never before by Sushant’s tragic death

Not that we didn’t know about this repulsive truth of Bollywood already, but Sushant Singh Rajput’s alleged suicide has ripped the veneer off the industry we love to obsess over. As the news broke last Sunday afternoon, the biggest of stars rushed to display their sham of sorrow and cooked up condolences. The farce was called out and rejected by the public at large who hadn’t forgotten how these “big stars” had humiliated the immensely talented TV actor, who had reached the big screen without a Godfather.

Mean Girls of Bollywood

Twitteratis dug up visuals of how Alia Bhatt and Karan Johar had run him down on the latter’s talk show, and Sonam Kapoor had refused to recognize him in the same show. Kareena Kapoor, on a gossip show, with a former actress derided Sushant saying Sara Ali Khan must not date him. A now-viral tweet by KRK’s verified account claims that all the big banners like Karan Johar’s Dharma production, Chopra’s YRF, Balaji Telefilms and Salman Khan had banned him leaving him with the sole option of returning to television or make-do with web-series.

Pegging on the outrage, the ever-fierce Kangana Ranaut released a video taking the entire Bollywood cabal to task. Dabangg director Abhinav Kashyap accused Salman Khan and his family of bullying and quashing him and emerging talent. But again, not all have the gall to pick on the big fish of the pond.

Fellow Bollywood director Anubhav Sinha, a habitual offender when it comes to denouncing the elected Prime Minister in the most obnoxious words, refused to name the members of this “Elite club” that acts like a bully at the sight of an outsider in the industry.

In the face of intense flak and fulmination, mediocre products of nepotism, Sonam Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha, took to Twitter to silence the voices that had shaken them out of their comfort zone.

Netizens, who were in no mood for their tall talks, directed their bottled-up angst at these self-appointed flag-bearers of morality and didn’t lose a minute in reminding them how they had exploited deaths of Asifa, Justice Loya and Rohit Vemula.

Karan Johar: The Ringmaster

When he’s not the lord of nepotism, he is the central force of groupism. With star-kids and selected outsiders who suck up to those who call the shots in the industry, Dharma Productions, along with Yash Raj and Balaji Telefilms make or mar careers in this unforgiving industry. Karan Johar is the central figure of one and is on good terms with the owners of the other two production houses. Careers of aspiring outsiders are shaped or destroyed at their coffee table. Karan had not only derided Sushant on his show, but he had also given step-motherly treatment to the movie Drive, featuring the deceased actor, adding to his anxiety.

Sushant, who was Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first choice for Ram Leela, was bound by a three-movie contract with Yash Raj Films. When the director approached YRF to let Sushant work with him, Aditya Chopra refused to release him. But the same director allowed the contract-bound Ranveer Singh to work in Ram Leela. This is just an example of how members of the movie mafia snatch the opportunities of outsiders to hand them over to those who are members of their esteemed groups.

Karan Johar insists on casting star kids as they come prepared rather than the unpolished regular Bharatiyas, who might be more talented, but he is motivated enough to bring in artists from the enemy nation of Pakistan and even fights for their right to work in Bharat, earn from Bharat and pay taxes in Islamic Pakistan to sponsor terror on Bharat.

The Bhatt Camp

This is a family camp helmed by Mahesh Bhatt and features most of their family members or those who warm up to the senior director. A rabid Hindu-hater, Mahesh was born to a Hindu father but raised by his Muslim mother after the separation of his parents. He converted to Islam to practise polygamy and marry Soni Razdan while still being married to his first wife, Kiran Bhatt.

The filmmaker had stirred up quite a controversy back in the nineties for smooching his grown-up elder daughter Pooja Bhatt for a photo-shoot and asserted that he would have married Pooja Bhatt had she not been his daughter.

His wife, Soni Razdan competes with him in her anti-Hindu stances and was seen repeatedly appealing to people to vote out the Modi-government in the 2019 elections.

While Pooja Bhatt peddles her low-key anti-Hindu stance under the garb of secularism, half-sister Alia feigns a non-political or neutral approach. However, it must not be overlooked that Alia has shelved out 25 lakhs as a donation to Rana Ayyub, who is renowned for spitting venom at Hindus through her brand of journalism.

Such people must refrain from doling out lectures of morality. Speaking of lectures, one of Bhatt’s famous speeches was at a Muslim conference in August 2013, where he labeled the Hindu-majority Bharat as ‘a land of the blind’. This doesn’t come as a shocker after his presence at the launch of a book titled “26/11 RSS Ki Saazish”. This book famously alleged RSS to be the force behind the Pakistan-sponsored Mumbai terror attacks of 2008.

Salman Khan & Family

With his foundation, ‘Being Human’, the actor has manufactured a veneer of respectability over all his vices. The feminists of the industry love to circle the man whose calls abusing and threatening then-girlfriend Aishwarya Rai with his Muslim underworld connections were recorded on tape and exposed by the media. His ego had run down Vivek Oberoi’s burgeoning career.

This man-child with a fragile ego ruined Arijit Singh’s career. He ran his car over poor people sleeping on a pavement and then used his power & influence to escape justice. But he advocates casting Pakistani actors in Bharatiya films and told a Pakistani channel that “26/11 attacks were hyped because the “elite” were targetted…the Pakistani government was not behind it and it was a terrorist attack. Our security had failed.”

Sushant couldn’t suck up to the Bollywood mafia or manipulate the paparazzi to click and circulate his pictures, or indulge in other seedy shenanigans. But for the cabal, this was not acceptable.

Running dry of empathy, introspection, humility and all the other virtues they magnify on the 70 mm screen, they will continue pushing the outsiders to the edge, and ruling the roost unless we the audience treat them with the contempt they deserve.
