Elder sister trapped in Love Jihad, now younger sister being targeted – Delhi

A Hindu family in Sangam Vihar area of South Delhi, having already lost their elder daughter in the trap of Love Jihad, is pleading with police to protect their younger daughter who is now being targeted by a group of Muslim youth from the locality, led by the same man who eloped with the elder daughter.

The family hailing from Bihar has two daughters. The elder daughter, a BA graduate from IGNOU, used to work in a garment showroom in Govindpuri. In April, a Muslim girl from the locality approached her saying she was ready to work for free at her showroom to learn the work. The elder daughter recommended the girl to her boss, who hired her in his showroom.

The very next day, the Muslim girl gifted her a couple of amulets to wear, and started preaching and promoting Islam. Within three-four days, she introduced the elder daughter to her cousin brother, the key accused. Thereafter she started inviting the Hindu girl to her home along with the cousin, and they would spend the entire day together.

When the girl’s family contacted the show room to know about their elder daughter, the owner told them that both their elder daughter and her Muslim friend had left the job.

Injury marks on the daughter

The girl’s father said that his daughter stayed overnight with the Muslim man on April 13, 14 and 15. Her mobile phone was switched off. When she returned home on April 16, she had bruises on her hand and neck. On being asked, she told that she fell down from a rickshaw.

On April 17, she left home in the morning and didn’t return, with her mobile phone switched off again. The father contacted several acquaintances and finally managed to contact her over phone. The girl said she and the Muslim man had married.

When the father lodged a complaint, police called both the girl and her ‘husband’ to register their statement. They said they were living together willingly, and as they were adults police did not take any further action.

Call recordings hint at girl being brainwashed?

The girl’s family has obtained call recordings of conversations between the accused, his cousin sister and some fiends. In these, the man can be heard telling a friend that he had convinced the girl to say that she had come with him willingly, when the two of them go to register their statements at Sangam Vihar police station. He adds that he would not allow the girl to meet her parents at the police station, lest she changes her mind. From the conversation it appears the two are not married – the accused talks about the girl in a vulgar & obscene manner with his friend. He asks the friend to keep a watch on the girl’s family.

In another call recording, the cousin sister can be heard telling the Hindu girl that she must say that she went with the accused of her own volition. In yet another call, the accused is heard jokingly telling the cousin sister that it was she who had instigated him to make the girl elope.

Younger daughter sexually harassed, threatened with acid attack, abduction

In a complaint lodged with police, the father has said that Sabir, Zahid, Firoz and 2-3 others have been stalking his home and continuously harassing his younger daughter. They pass obscene comments on her, have molested her, and threaten to throw acid and abduct her. On 6 May, police registered an FIR and arrested two youth, who later got out on bail. Since then, they have been continuously threatening the family.

The father claims that three more incidents of Love Jihad have occurred in the same locality, but people are too terrorized or afraid of social stigma to talk.

On 10 September, the father e-mailed an appeal to PM Narendra Modi, HM Amit Shah and Delhi Police Chief Amulya Patnayak for police action and protection. On Sep 18, the family received a reply from police that Joint Commissioner Of Police (Southern Zone) would further investigate the matter.

Such cases have become a sickening routine of life in innumerable pockets across Bharat, especially in mixed-population areas where ‘minority’ population is significant. While police apathy towards such cases is real, and highlights the urgent need for police reform and modernization, the uncomfortable reality is that there are limits to what the legal machinery can do in such cases. Especially, when such ugly behavior & mindsets have tacit approval of large sections of the ‘minority’ community that has been bred on a diet of religious supremacism.

Why is Hindu society now almost entirely dependent on the state for protection? Why are both Hindu and Muslim societies failing to talk about this ugly phenomenon openly and candidly? For what it matters, even ordinary Christians in Kerala now understand the danger of Love Jihad.

Our English-speaking elites will continue dismissing ‘Love Jihad’ as a hoax till they are blue in the face, but those connected to the grassroots must never stop raising their voices for the victims and families affected by this cynical, immoral and theologically sanctioned perversity which is thriving in the gray zone of Secularism & Constitutionalism.
