Fact-finding team finds Church-Naxal involvement in Palghar mob lynching case

An independent fact-finding team set up by Vivek Vichar Manch has confirmed the involvement of leftist organizations and Christian missionaries in the brutal lynching of Hindu Sadhus and their driver at Mumbai’s Palghar in April this year.

The fact-finding team comprising of retired judges, senior police officers and lawyers has presented a detailed 149 page report where it has blamed certain groups for adopting a violent approach and inciting the tribals of the area against the Central Government.

Asking for the case to be handed over to Central agencies such as the NIA (National Investigation Agency) or the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation), the report has made some damning revelations.

Stating that the brutal and inhuman mob lynching of Sanyasis is the outcome of a violent approach which has been influencing the tribal community; the report blames the police for being hand-in-glove with the accused and failing to prevent the genocide despite being in a position to stop the lynching.

Retired Justice Ambadas Joshi, who is one of the members of the team, has raised the question as to how a mob of around 400 people was allowed to gather if it were spontaneous and the logistical support provided to such a huge gathering of people. Additionally, he also said “the police practically handed over the Sadhus to the mob instead of stopping them”.

Another member of the team Advocate Pravartak Pathak has pointed out the involvement of Christian missionaries that are providing monetary support to organizations supposedly working for tribal rights.

Some of the recommendations put forward by the committee have been listed below:

  • The committee has sought NIA investigation in the case as it does not rule out secret connections to the Naxalite movement since the incident seems to be a replication of the independent Adivasi area like Patthalgarhi in Jharkhand
  • Central agencies such as NIA and CBI must investigate organizations that use violent means to spread communal hatred and anti-democratic agenda
  • The investigation must not be misdirected on the basis of statements issued by the Chief Minister and Home Minister of Maharashtra. Instead, there should be a detailed investigation and the role and involvement of both individuals and organizations such as the Adivasi Ekta Parishad and Kashtakari Sanghatna must be thoroughly investigated. Central agencies must take note of all evidences including videos and other information gathered and listed by the team
  • Actual witnesses are to be identified and listed and ample protection provided to those identified in view of the history of violence
  • Political nexus should not lead to false implication of innocent adivasis who are not part of Adivasi Ekta Parishad and Kashtakari Sanghatna

In addition to a few lawyers and social workers, the fact finding team comprised of retired Justice Ambadas Joshi, Editor Kiran Shelar, Palghar District activist Santosh Janate and retired ACP Laxman Kharpade among others.

Hindupost had pointed out the nexus between communists, Church and left-liberal NGOs in poisoning the minds of the tribals to alienate them from their roots and drive a wedge between them and the Hindu society so that they can be used as a pawn to fulfil the vested interests of the West.

In the same article, the role of Kashtakari Sanghatana in fostering communal hatred in collusion with the Church was also exposed. Additionally, Hindupost had also reported how eyewitnesses had revealed the role of ultra-leftists in the Palghar mob lynching case.

A two-judge bench of the Supreme Court (SC) had also pulled up the Maharashtra government with regard to the action taken against errant police officials involved in the case.

It has now been learnt that three policemen including assistant police inspector Anandrao Kale have been dismissed in connection with the case. Besides Kale, in-charge of Palghar’s Kasa police station, assistant sub-inspector Ravi Salunke and Constable Naresh Dhodi have also been removed from service. They were earlier suspended along with five other colleagues.
