Hindu girl, a TikTok ‘celebrity’, murdered in her salon by Muslim stalker

After Naina Kaur’s sensational murder by her stalker and TikToker Sheru Khan in Ghaziabad, a Hindu girl who also happened to be a TikToker was found murdered at her beauty salon in Kondli, Haryana. Shivani Khobiyan was killed by her neighbour and stalker Arif Khan who strangulated her in her own salon on 26 June.

After murdering Shivani, Khan stuffed her body in a bed box in the salon and kept messaging from her social media accounts to mislead people by keeping her virtual identity alive.

Murder Victim Shivani Khobiyan

Shivani Khobiyan used to work in a salon by name of Touch & Fair in Sonipat Kondli’s TDI apartments. She was a minor celebrity on social media with 1 lakh+ subscribers on her Tiktok and Instagram accounts. According to her parents, Shivani was being harassed by Pyau Maniyari resident Arif Khan for last three years.

As per details given in Sonipat News, Shivani’s family had complained against Arif three years back and he was made to apologize for stalking Shivani back then. Since then, Arif was holding a grudge against them and wanted to avenge his humiliation. He would stand outside her salon to see her and try to gain her favours by constantly harassing her. Her father said that they had even changed their rented accommodation so that they could avoid Arif.

Shivani’s sister Shweta told press that when she called Shivani on Friday, 26th June, she learnt that Arif had come to meet her at the salon but she did not want to see him. Later, Shivani messaged her that she is leaving for Haridwar and will come back on Tuesday. Meanwhile, another salon worker Neeraj, who used to stay at the salon returned on Sunday and on smelling something foul, discovered her dead body from a box bed placed there.

Based on inputs from her family, police started a manhunt for Arif and arrested him. It has been speculated that Shivani had been avoiding him for the last 15 days. When she shunned his advances, Arif got angry and strangulated and killed her. He allegedly took her mobile phone and hid her body in the bed before fleeing.

Murder Accused Arif Khan

After her death, he kept managing her phone and even uploaded a video on her Tiktok account so that no one would suspect that something has happened to her. It is the same technique that Mohammad Saquib used in Ekta Deswal murder case to mislead investigators.

On Monday, the Shivani’s dead body was handed over to family after postmortem. The accused has been arrested and will be presented in the court in due time. According to police, he has confessed his crime and he has been booked for murder, destroying evidence and under SC/ST act.

Before its ban on 29 June 2020 over data theft and national security concerns, the promotion of harmful and narcissistic behavior on short-video Chinese app Tiktok has long been a cause of concern for society. In Tiktok’s world of instant gratification, the users, especially youngsters, are vulnerable to emotional exploitation and predators. Incapable of taking a long view of issues,  they end up becoming victim or perpetrators of criminal acts. Many incidents have been reported of people who were associated with this Chinese app, who either died in Tiktok related accidents or committed suicide or were murdered.  Prominent among them were Siya Kakkar(suicide), Sheru Khan(murderer), Khush Randhawa (suicide), Karim Sheikh & Vicky(Tiktok related accidents), Neerja Chauhan (murdered).
