A Hindu girl who had gone to purchase a mobile was held hostage in the mobile shop in Prayag (Allahabad), UP and pressurized to convert to Islam by 4 Muslim men, including the shop owner. When she refused, she was gang-raped by the four men, news outlet Patrika has reported. The culprits then falsely accused the girl of mobile theft and got her jailed on Saturday.

Now, after the intervention of two MLAs, the police has registered a case against the 4 accused under charges of forced conversion and rape among other charges. Two of the accused have been arrested while the other two are still absconding.

The mobile shop owner Anwar on Saturday accused the victim girl of mobile burglary and handed her over to police. The police then put her behind the bars.

The new revelations came on Tuesday when Sultanpur MLA Sitaram Verma (BJP) and Vishwanathganj MLA R.K. Verma (Apna Dal -S)  went to the victim’s house to meet her mother. She told the MLAs that her daughter went to the shop to buy a mobile where she was taken hostage by the culprits. They then started forcing her to convert to Islam. When the girl replied in negative, all 4 of them gang-raped her. Then they sent her to jail under false charges of burglary and theft to save themselves.

Both the MLAs were shocked after listening to the mother’s account of events. After which, they promptly informed SP (Gangapar) Sunil Singh about the revelations made by the victim’s mother. A written complaint was given to the SP after he arrived at the scene.

Mauaima police has now registered a case against Anwar, Pradhan Wajid Ali, Shekhu and Jahid under charges of forced conversion and rape as per the complaint. Police has taken Anwar and Pradhan Wajid Ali into custody. The other two accused in the case, Shekhu and Jahid, are still absconding.
