Hindu woman attacked by Christian neighbors for performing pooja in Telangana

After a spate of temple attacks in neighboring Andhra, a Hindu woman and her mother came under attack from their Christian speaking neighbors in the Telugu-speaking Telangana for performing pooja and ringing the bell. The violent attacks indicate the plight of Hindus in the two Telugu-speaking states where Christian evangelical activities are on the rise.

Pandurangnagar resident Kavita has registered a police complaint against her Christian neighbors for attacking her and her mother with construction tools for merely performing pooja and ringing the bell as is customary during Hindu pooja rituals.

In her statement, she has alleged that on 9th October, her neighbor Yeshu assaulted her with a stick saying that he would not allow her to perform pooja and ring bells. Further, his daughter also tried to strangulate her as a result of which she fainted. She was severely injured and rushed to the hospital where she received treatment for her head injuries and nine stitches.

Although their Christian neighbors have been picking fights with them and abusing Hindu Devi/Devatas every time Kavita or her family members did pooja or rang bells in the mini temple set up at their residence for the last 18 years, Kavita stated that they have become extremely aggressive since the last one year.

The police have booked a case taking Kavita’s complaint into cognizance and stated that they would initiate action against Yeshu and two of his family members who are involved in assaulting Kavita and her 55-year-old mother.
