Despite strict punitive actions and policing in Uttar Pradesh by Yogi Adityanath government, crimes against Hindus, specially weaker sections are going on as usual. In the last one week, in Pratapgarh district alone, two Hindu females have been murdered by Muslims.
First, 8-year-old Laali Pandey was shot in the stomach over a petty reason by Md. Akhlaq, Md. Wasim, and Md. Saahil. She succumbed to her injuries a few days later at Prayagraj hospital. In another, more recent case, 62-year-old Santola Devi, widow of Late Chhotelal, was beaten up by a Muslim neighbour from her village and his family with sticks and stones till she lost consciousness. She too was admitted in a Prayagraj hospital in grievous condition and, after fighting for a day, succumbed to her injuries.
On 26 May, Santola Devi was minding shop for her divyang (disabled) son in Jaganipur village of Fatanpur police stations area, Pratapgarh district, when Khalil’s goat entered the shop and ate sweets. Angry at her loss, she complained about it to Khalil who argued with her and soon his family & friends started assaulting the old lady. They hit Santola Devi with sticks and pelted stones at her. She was referred to Prayagraj district hopital where next day evening she breathed her last.
Muslim women, Nazbeen Bano & Anari Begum, participated equally with their men folk in beating Santola Devi to death. They have been booked by police along with Ashiq Ali (s/o Khalil), Arshad, Hasnain and Minhaz.
Even before this final assault, Khalil was in the habit of troubling the old lady. He would spit around her shop and cause nuisance to her which led to verbal spats between the two.
After her death, there was lot of commotion in the village. Her family protested by placing her dead body on the road and demanding arrest of all the culprits and compensation for the victim family. Police, in a knee jerk reaction, beat up a youth which further escalated the tension. After 3 hours of chaos, police managed to pacify the agitators after assurances from Ranigunj Sub Divisional Magistrate Rahul Kumar & CO Dr. Atul Anjan Tripathi that justice will prevail and all guilty persons will be punished.
