Lady corona warrior attempts suicide after being threatened and abused by Muslim man

An Asha health care worker attempted suicide by consuming phenyl after being threatened and insulted by a Muslim man reports Lokmat. The incident occurred in Jariparka Police circle which has put Kapil Nagar police under the scanner who refused to take cognisance initially. They have now sprung into action and are attempting to bring the accused to justice.

The Asha worker was conducting Corona survey in North Nagpur’s Kamgarnagar along with her colleagues on the afternoon of 12th April. She was collecting information from Ghulam Hamid’s wife when he intervened. He not only rebuked his wife but also got into a tiff with the Asha worker. Besides abusing and threatening the health care worker, he tore her identification cards and other documents. When the issue reached the local police, Ghulam accused the lady worker of intruding into his privacy and trespassing into his home. Shaken and scared, the lady couldn’t control her tears. Later on receiving a call from one of her relatives enquiring about the incident, she consumed phenyl on Saturday evening. Her family members rushed her to the hospital where she is currently undergoing treatment. Kapil Nagar police had not taken any action against Hamid. However, following the suicide attempt, Kapil Nagar police have been pulled up for their action by higher authorities who have demanded an explanation for their inaction.

But despite their sacrifice, they have to face abuses, attacks and uncivilised behaviour. Such incidents are extremely disturbing and demand strict action those harass Corona warriors. Both the police and administration is worried as cases in Nagpur have been on the rise. Corona warriors are risking their lives to serve the people. In addition, those affected by the virus are refusing to follow guidelines laid down by the government.
