Love Jihad in Meerut ends in double murder of Hindu woman and minor daughter

In yet another case of Love Jihad & murder, a Hindu lady Priya and her daughter were murdered by accused Mohammad Shamshad who introduced himself to her by name of Amit Gurjar on Facebook. After befriending her and getting into relationship with her, he murdered the woman & her daughter Kashish and buried their bodies in his drawing room.

In a case resembling Ekta Deswal‘s murder that was discovered in June 2020, this case also started with deception and ended with murder. The victim Priya, a divorcee, was running a beauty parlour in Modinagar area of Ghaziabad on rent to earn her livelihood when she came in contact with a man claiming to be Amit Gurjar. Soon their friendship developed into a relationship and both started living together. Even though Amit, who was actually Shamshad, was already married, this was not known to Priya at the time.

By late March, both Priya and Kashish went missing without trace. It was suspected that Shamshad had hidden them somewhere or done away with them but there was no clue. Police too was not very keen on investigating and Shamshad was all but free. His crime would have gone unnoticed but for a friend of Priya who left no stone unturned to find her.

Chanchal became a close friend of Priya when the latter lived in her parent’s house as a tenant. Chanchal had developed close affection for the little Kashish and after their disappearance, she kept looking for their whereabouts. She first complained to police in mid April and put pressure on police to find her friend’s whereabouts. In the process, she not only had to endure police apathy but even sexually suggestive advances of a policeman. It was only when VHP and other local Hindu organisations learnt about the case that they put pressure on senior police officers and an FIR was lodged on 14 July.

Shamshad’s first wife has alleged that police had been extorting money from Shamshad which shows that in lieu of bribe, police was deliberately lenient with accused. Despite the challenges, Chanchal raised enough noise about the case and managed to get justice for the victims.

After a long and tortuous quest for justice, police finally acted on the complaint and formally arrested Shamshad. In police interrogation, Shamshad kept misleading the cops initially but finally broke down and confessed that he has murdered the mother-daughter duo and buried their bodies.

As this must-read Swarajya report tells us, since past few years Shamshad and Priya often quarrelled over financial issues, his demands that she cook meat (she was vegetarian), and over her practise of her Hindu religion. Last year, she had even filed a police complaint in which she mentioned that he had posed as a Hindu, married her in a temple, but once she found his true identity he started assaulting an raping her. He threatened to push her and her 9-year-old daughter into prostitution, and throw acid on her face. However, she later withdrew her complaint.

Shamshad was actually a native of Bihar who used to work in Meerut, and returned home to his first wife and children only once a year. It was only earlier this year that Priya found out about the existence of his other family.

On the night of the murder, another quarrel escalated into violence and Shamshad strangled and stabbed both Priya and Kashish. To hide his crime, he and his brother-in-law buried their dead bodies right in the drawing room of his home and told everyone who asked that the duo has left. The murderer, who covered the dead bodies with salt to hasten their decomposition, continued to live in the same house for 113 days after murder till police picked him up.  He entombed the victims’ belongings in the walls of his house. After his confession, police bulldozed his house and dug up skeletons of victims and sent them to forensic lab.

Shamshad has not shown any remorse for the murders of Priya and her daughter. He even escaped from police custody during interrogation and was apprehended after a brief shootout in which he received bullets in both his legs.

Accused after Encounter

The cases of Ekta Deswal & now Priya Chaudhary have uncanny similarities. Both Hindu girls had cut off  their past after being trapped in love jihad by Muslim men of Meerut. Both were physically and financially exploited. When these criminals had their fill, they murdered and buried the bodies in both cases. Then they went on with their lives with support from their families as if nothing has happened.

Despite recurring occurrences of such disturbing incidents at ever shortening intervals, the liberal and secular lobbies still refuse to accept ‘Love Jihad’ or sexual grooming as a reality. Even today, Hindu society, though little more aware than before, has not taken sufficient counter-steps to safeguard Hindu girls & women from this menace. The secular Indian state has refused to even recognise this as an issue.
