LRPF registers complaint against Gospel for Tribals Social Service Society for FCRA violations and anti-Hindu propaganda

The influence of Christian Evangelical organisations in Southern states of the country in general and Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in particular has been increasing by the day. These bodies have been able to tighten their grip by targeting poor Hindus and brainwashing them. These organisations have also misused foreign funds received through FCRA (Foreign Contributions Regulation Act). Legal Rights Protection Forum (LRPF) has been active in exposing such organisations and has regularly brought such fraudulent acts to the notice of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). LRPF has exposed the misuse of foreign funds by Gospel for Tribals Social Service Society (GTSSS) which has been actively indulging in Christian conversions in Khammam district of Telangana.

In their letter to the MHA, LRPF has highlighted that GTSSS led by Bishop Jacob Marineni has indulged in serious FCRA violations. Violating section 8 (1) (a) of the FCRA 2010 the NGO has used funds received from abroad for setting up a poultry farm with an estimated capacity of around 2 lakhs birds. The funds which were acquired stating “educational and social” purposes have been employed for commercial activities including setting up a poultry farm, planting churches, training Christian preachers, using this commercial money as an allurement for unethical conversions and acquiring huge fixed assets. LRPF has demanded a thorough scrutiny of the NGOs account books over the last 15 years as the organisation has been buying and selling land regularly besides obtaining sizeable physical assets annually.

The NGO and its president have time and again misrepresented facts and indulged in anti-Hindu propaganda in international platforms to gain sympathy of foreign donors. While raising funds in the name of orphans, widows and lepers, the NGO has used very little of these funds for the actual causes. The NGO has been making ridiculous claims with regards to the number of leprosy patients in Bharat as 50 lakhs against the actual 90,000 and has also blatantly lied about the condition of orphans in the country. Jacob has been circulating videos among his donors showing Bharat in a poor light by stating “12 million orphans who are considered worse than animals in Bharat”. LRPF has further highlighted how GTSSS hasn’t hesitated to forcibly convert these orphans into Christianity by getting them baptised and it has been bringing foreign nationals using the tourist visa for gospel teaching, baptism and other conversion related activities.

There is discrepancy between their income and expenditure which they claim to have made for ‘serving’ the lepers, poor, widows, orphans and other downtrodden sections of the society. In reality, they are simply using these funds for mass conversions of non-Christians into Christians. As pointed out in LRPF’s complaint, has violated several provisions of FCRA including FCRA rule 13 by not putting out details of the receipt and utilisation of one crore rupees it has been receiving annually in public domain. The CEO has also made a wrong declaration that he did not participate in religious conversion of minors and adults to Christianity using allurements, inducements and threats which is a clear violation of Clause 4 (a)(ii) of section 12 of FCRA.

The ministry has been requested to take note of all the above mentioned violations in addition to the attempt to tarnish Bharat globally by making false claims about Christian persecution/killings in Bharat. In addition, Jacob has been defaming Hindu religion and its religious practices by creating a derogatory image of Hindus and Hindu customs in international platforms.

In view of all these violations and a deliberate attempt to defame Hindu religion and Bharat globally, LRPF has asked for a thorough investigation into various discrepancies and frauds. The organisation has also request MHA freeze the NGO’s bank accounts, ban sale/transfer of its assets, inspect orphanages run by the NGO, audit the NGO’s account books over the last 15 years and prosecute members for making false claims, presenting false accounts and indulging in forced conversions.
