Maulvi, suspected to be mastermind behind minor Hindu girls’ molestation, arrested in Hathras UP

Maulvi Mohammed Yakub, believed to be the mastermind behind two separate cases of minor Hindu girls being lured and molested by 3 Muslim men, was arrested on Monday from Sadabad, district Hathras, UP reports Hindi daily Amar Ujala.

HinduPost had covered how the 5-year-old daughter of a Hindu trader in village Bisawar of Hathras was lured away on 25 December by 3 men -Mohammed Sariq, Aman, Kadir – under the pretext of showing her a rabbit, only to be later found naked in a field.

After the 3 accused were arrested, it was revealed that this was not the first time they had done something like this. Last Friday, another villager lodged a police complaint that on 15 Dec, his 4-year-old daughter and her 5-year-old cousin were walking to his shop around 4 PM, when the 3 men intercepted them and took them away on a dirt road leading to Nagla Madari area. Luckily, a neighbour informed him, and when he reached the spot he found the youth performing obscene acts with the girls. Fearful of social stigma, he did not lodge any police complaint against the men back then.

Irate villagers had told police of the maulvi’s (Muslim cleric) involvement, but he had evaded arrest thus far. Police conducted last Friday’s namaz in village Nagla Chatti under strict suprevision due to tension over the maulvi’s arrest.

On Monday, the accused maulvi Mohammed Yakub, native of Nighasan, Lakhimpur Kheri (a UP district on the Indo-Nepal border), was arrested from Sadabad under the POCSO Act in the case lodged by the minor girl’s father.
