Muslim man and two sons arrested for murder of nursing student

A married Muslim man aged 53 and his two sons have been arrested for the murder of a young Hindu Dalit girl whose body was found near the gutter of Sawai Madhopur Railway station on Sunday reports Dainik Bhaskar.

According to ASI Ramkumar Meena, the victim Chandrakanta Punnu belongs to Nundri Mendratan village situated in Beawar tehsil of Ajmer district and was pursuing nursing while staying in a hostel at Ajmer. The hostel warden had filed a missing report at Clock Tower Police Station stating that the student had left the hostel after breakfast on 2nd January but never returned. The family was also informed about her having gone missing by the nursing college warden.

Another report informs that the girl, eldest of 5 siblings, was a first year student at the St. Francis Nursing Institute. After learning of her disappearance and suspecting that she had been abducted, her family approached the Dalit Adhikari centre at Ajmer to demand strict action against the perpetrators and for compensation.

On 5th January the dead body of the young woman was found in a gutter near platform number four of the Sawai Madhopur railway station. Initial investigations revealed that she was strangulated to death. Her family members reached Sawai Madhopur police station and alleged that a man from Deoli in Tonk district had lured and murdered her.

Deoli police arrested Abdul Haq Abbasi who during the course of investigations revealed that he befriended Chandrakanta on Facebook (FB). The police have stated that he used a different name and posed as a Sawai Madhopur resident on FB. After chatting on FB for a few days they exchanged phone numbers and began conversing via phone calls.

The two met in Sawai Madhopur. Haq has confessed to having murdered the girl. The police have also arrested Haq’s two sons on suspicion of being involved in the murder. The case has been transferred to Ajmer Clock Tower police station and police is conducting further enquiries in the case.

Locals in Deoli cutting across community lines took out a protest march demanding death penalty for the accused and to raise awareness among general public to avoid such predators lurking on social media and elsewhere. It is said that prime accused Abdul Haq Abbasi (53) is a teacher at a private school and he carried out the brutal murder along with his two sons, Shahrukh (25) and Danish (23).
