Online petition to install Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s statue near India Gate goes viral

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose  was a fierce nationalist whose patriotism made him one of the greatest freedom fighters in Bharat’s history. He is credited with setting up the Indian National Army (INA) as a separate entity from the British Indian Army.

An online petition seeking the installation of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s statue at India Gate, New Delhi on 23rd January 2021, on the occasion of his 125th birth anniversary, has been started by social activist Devdutta Maji.

The petition uploaded on change.org to install Netaji’s statue at the empty canopy behind India Gate, facing the National War Memorial, has gone viral on Twitter with the hashtag #NetajiStatueAtIndiaGate. Shri Maji has appealed to the Honourable President of Bharat, Sri Ram Nath Kovind, Honourable Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi, Honourable Home Minister Sri Amit Shah and Honourable Defence Minister Sri Rajnath Singh.

Thus far, the petition has received over 32,000 signatures including those of Army veteran Major General G.D. Bakshi SM, VSM (Retd.), Bollywood personalities Kangana Ranaut, Vivek Agnihotri, Dharmendra, Abhijeet; Col. R S N Singh (Ex RAW officer), Sri Pushpendra Kulsreshtha (Nationalist) and others.

The petition states –

“Netaji was one of the most revered leaders of his time. He was extremely passionate about the development of India. A heroic soldier, an ardent Nationalist for whom it was always Bharat First. By following his thoughts, deeds and ideals the nation can achieve everything it deserves. Subhas Chandra Bose was the true son of Bharat Mata.

The best way to honour the thousands of soldiers of INA who sacrificed their lives for our motherland is to honour the man who led the INA. By honouring Netaji, we will be setting an example before our younger generations how to live and die for India!

…I appeal to the Honourable President, the Honourable Prime Minister, the Honourable Home Minister and the Honourable Defence Minister to install a Magnificent Statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in the empty Canopy/Chhatri behind India Gate, facing the War Memorial or any suitable location in New Delhi. This Statue will be a humble tribute to Netaji from all Indians and NRIs.

In addition to the above, I would also like to take this opportunity to appeal to the Central Government to declassify all files related to Netaji and declare 23rd January a National Holiday. These have been long pending appeals and have not been addressed till date by any government.

Please sign this petition and transform this appeal into a national movement because nobody else apart from Netaji deserves this honour. #Netaji’s_Statue

“It is blood alone that can pay the price of freedom. Give me blood and I will give you freedom”   – Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
