Another Al-Qaeda terrorist arrested from WB; module was running WhatsApp group ‘Gazwatul-Hind’

NIA along with West Bengal STF arrested another Al-Qaeda terrorist Samim Ansari, a resident of Murshidabad districgt, after arresting 9 terrorists from West Bengal and Kerala a week back. CJM Murshidabad Court has granted his transit remand and he will be produced before NIA court in New Delhi.

“West Bengal STF along with police held Ansari late Friday night on suspected terror links and in connection with arrests made by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) earlier on,” Additional Director General of Police (STF) Vineet Goyel told IANS.

A resident of Naodapara area of Jalangi in, Ansari was arrested from his residence. According to police sources, he had close contacts with Al-Qaeda militant Al Mamun Kamal, arrested from the district last week. Ansari worked in Kerala for around two years as a construction labourer but returned to his village a year ago, where he was living with his wife and family.

An NIA press release about the earlier 9 arrests said –

“NIA conducted simultaneous raids at several locations at Ernakulam (Kerala) and Murshidabad (West Bengal) and arrested nine (09) terrorists associated with Pakistan sponsored module of Al-Qaeda.

NIA had learnt about an inter-state module of Al-Qaeda operatives at various locations in India including WestBengal and Kerala. The group was planning to undertake terrorist attacks at vital installations in India with an aim to kill innocent people and strike terror in their minds. Accordingly, NIA registered a case No. RC-31/2020/NIA/DLI on 11.09.2020, and initiated investigation.

NIA has arrested 06 (six) terrorists from West-Bengal and 03 (three) terrorists from Kerala in the early morning raids. Large quantity of incriminating materials including digital devices, documents, jihadi literature, sharp weapons, country-made firearms, a locally fabricated body armour, articles and literature used for making home-made explosive devices have been seized from their possession.

As per preliminary investigation, these individuals were radicalised by Pakistan-based Al-Qaeda terrorists on social media and were motivated to undertake attacks at multiple places including the National Capital Region. For this purpose, the module was actively indulging in fund raising and a few members of gang were planning to travel to New Delhi to procure arms and ammunition. These arrests have pre-empted possible terrorist attacks in various parts of the country.

The details of the arrested accused are as under:

(i) Murshid Hasan, currently a resident of Ernakulam, Kerala.
(ii) Iyakub Biswas, currently a resident of Ernakulam, Kerala.
(iii) Mosaraf Hossen, currently a resident of Ernakulam, Kerala.
(iv) Najmus Sakib, a resident of Murshidabad, West Bengal.
(v) Abu Sufiyan, a resident of Murshidabad, West Bengal .
(vi) Mainul Mondal, a resident of Murshidabad West Bengal.
(vii) Leu Yean Ahmed, a resident of Murshidabad, West Bengal .
(viii) Al Mamun Kamal, a resident of Murshidabad, West Bengal.
(ix) Atitur Rehman, a resident of Murshidabad, West Bengal.

The arrested terrorists will be produced before the concerned Courts in Kerala and West Bengal for police custody and further investigation.”

NIA also recovered a book written by the fugitive Islamist televangelist Zakir Naik, from one of the arrested men. Interestingly, these terrorists were members of a Whatsapp group called “Gazwatul-Hind”.

‘Ghazwa-e-Hind’ refers to Islam’s Prophetic War against Bharat, which is based on five reported sayings (Hadees or Hadith) attributed to Islam’s Prophet Muhammad about a Muslim holy war and conquest of Bharat that shall take place before the end of times. This religious prophecy is extremely popular among large sections of Pakistan, with even educated Pakistanis like this banker-turned cleric believing that the nation was created explicitly to fulfill Ghazwa-e-Hind.

The main Hadiths on Ghazwa-e-Hind unambiguously say:

“The Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) said – ‘Allah has saved two groups of my Ummah from the hellfire; the group that will invade Al-Hind (the subcontinent) and the group that will be with Eesa (Jesus), the son of Mariam.’ Quoting the narration of Abu Hurairah [the narrator of over 5,000 hadiths] – ‘The Messenger of Allah promised us the conquest of Al-Hind (the subcontinent). If I am able to join it, I will spend on it my wealth and my life. If I am killed, I will be the best of martyrs and if I return, I will be Abu Hurairah, the freed one (i.e. from hellfire).’”

The Hadiths are a primary source of guidance in Islam. It is unanimously agreed by Muslims that the authority of the Hadith is second only to that of the Quran.

For obvious reasons, Islamic clerics within Bharat avoid openly discussing Ghazwa-e-Hind, while some like Maulana Mufti Salman Mansoorpuri of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, a body of Muslim clerics linked to the orthodox Deoband seminary, have tried to deflect the issue by questioning the specific timing for its occurrence.

The unceasing busts of homegrown IS (Islamic State), Al-Qaeda and other Islamic terror modules over the last few years shows that the idea of converting Bharat into an Islamic State has many takers within Bharat too, notwithstanding the rebuttals and denials of the left-liberal-Islamist lobby.

NIA and other investigative agencies have done a sterling job in keeping the nation safe under the Modi government, and now judiciary must work in tandem to ensure quick disposal of terror-related cases with exemplary punishments to create credible deterrence. Judiciary must also ensure that the powerful Lutyens’ PIL & FCRA-funded NGO lobby, which will inevitably try to stall the prosecution of these cases, is dealt with a firm hand.
