NIA to probe Bengaluru violence

In a press release, this morning the NIA (National Investigation Agency) announced that it would be taking up the investigations of the “largescale violence perpetrated by miscreants” in DJ Halli and KG Halli police station limits on the night of August 11 in Bengaluru.

Two cases have been taken over by the agency following the orders issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) under sections 6 (4) and 8 of the NIA Act, 2008. The cases pertain to KG Halli and DJ Halli police jurisdictions where large scale violence and arson were caused by Islamic jihadi elements aiming to drive out Hindus and create a Muslim majority area.

The NIA has also registered two cases in this regard under various sections of the IPC (India Penal Code), Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, the Karnataka Prevention of Destruction and Loss of Property Act, and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Readers may recall that Hindupost had reported how Pulakeshi Nagar Dalit MLA Naveen Srinivas Murthy’s residence was attacked on the night of August 11 by Islamic extremists purportedly for a Facebook (FB) post which was actually a response to the derogatory portrayal of Hindu Devis and Devatas.

It had also been established that mob violence was incited by SDPI’s Muzamil Pasha and Congress Corporator Irshad Begum’s husband Kaleem Pasha. The Bengaluru Police has registered cases against both Muzamil and Kaleem and the NIA is expected to conduct further investigations in the case.
