The Nice Jihadi Attack – France Mourns Again

Large number of people had come to celebrate Bastille Day in Nice on 14th July, France’s biggest public holiday, which was cruelly ruined by a jihadi attack when Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, a 31-year old Tunisia with French residency permit, drove a truck through crowds killing at least 84 people and leaving over 100 injured, many critically.

Though his family has claimed that he was a ‘bad’ Muslim, some reports say he shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ as he drove over people and the lead French anti-terror investigator said the attack is exactly in line with ‘jiadist calls to action’. IS (Islamic State) has claimed responsibility for the attack. Eye witnesses say that Bouhel also shot people from the truck. When he was finally killed after a gun-battle with cops, police found 2 automatic pistols, 2 rifles (Kalashnikov and an M16), a grenade and ammunition in the driver cabin. Here is a detailed report on the attack.

Dead bodies lay scattered on the pedestrianized area on which the attacker had mounted his truck to kill people.

While most politicians and elites in Europe and elsewhere have maintained political correctness over the role of Islam in such barbaric attacks, common people on social media and bloggers took to exposing the propagation of terrorism that seems to be inherent in fundamentalist Islam. Quoting this piece in yugaparivartan.com :

“Given how Europeans provide cover for Islamists and have been at the forefront of coining terminology like “Islamophobia”, it was only a matter of time before they got caught by the hydra they had been nourishing for a very long time. Bharat has been facing the menace of Islamic terrorism for a very long time and now it is time for Europe to face the same barbarity that they refused to acknowledge. But every such attack on European soil also busts the myth of poor disenchanted Muslims in Bharat resorting to terrorism as most of the terrorists in Europe are home grown, part of rich European society and taken care of by the social security in these countries even if they decide to become lazy bums and do nothing.”

In another report, it was mentioned that ISIS are developing driver-free cars for bomb attacks in the West. Mannequins with thermostats are put inside to confuse heat detectors and jihadis are also working on new missile technology for hitting passenger jets.

It may also be noted that a Saudi funded mosque had opened up in Nice on 2nd July after much struggle with the authorities. A news report says :

“A Saudi-funded mosque in Nice opened its doors for the first time on Saturday, after a 15-year tussle with the local town hall.

Estrosi, mayor since 2008, was implacably opposed to the construction of the mosque and in April had secured the green light to sue the French state in a bid to block its opening in the southern city. He had accused the building’s owner, Saudi Arabia’s Islamic Affairs Minister Sheikh Saleh bin Abdulaziz, of “advocating sharia” and wanting to “destroy all of the churches on the Arabian peninsula”.

Finally, IS has claimed the responsibility of this attack and called Mohamed Bouhlel a ‘soldier’. As per an acquaintance of his estranged wife, he started going to mosque only in April and was radicalized too quickly. It is high time Islamic extremism is controlled by shedding political correctness and though iron fist measures, such as Egypt’s (a Muslim country) move to standardize sermons in a bid to control Islamic religious discourse.
