All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Taufiq Sheikh, alias ‘Don’ & ‘Pehelwan’, has been arrested for murdering Congress leader Reshma Padekanura in Vijayapura (Bijapur), Karnataka, reports daijiworld.com
Reshma’s husband, Khaja Bande Nawaz, had filed a complaint against Taufiq Sheikh for murdering his wife. It is believed Sheikh murdered Reshma under the Kolhara Bridge in Vijayapura on May 17 this year. Reshma had also filed a case against Sheikh in April for threatening her, reports Siasat.
Police sources believe that six persons including Taufiq were involved with this murder.
Sheikh is a leader of the AIMIM Solapur unit, and was the AIMIM MLA candidate from Solapur for the 2014 Maharashtra state elections.
Sheikh was earlier with the Congress and once close to former Union Home Minister Sushil Shinde. He has been a municipal councilor in Solapur Corporation while his elder brother Asif Sheikh was the Mayor – both as Congress leaders. Before resigning from Congress, over what he calls “Congress double standards against Muslims”, he held the party post of city minorities’ cell chairman.
Popularly known as ‘Don’ or ‘Pehelwan’, Taufiq Sheikh is alleged to be involved in business malpractices & other illegal activities.
Raja Singh, BJP MLA representing Goshamahal Assembly Constituency, questioned AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s silence over the development in the case.
“#Owaisi is silent, as his close aide is arrested in a murder case. Generally he has a opinion on everything & share selective news articles & poke his nose on how the govt should work day in day out,” MLA Raja Singh tweeted.
Asaduddin Owaisi is being projected by several in our establishment elite as the archetypal Muslim politician worth emulating. They have glossed over the venomous, communal rhetoric & hate speech that Owaisi and his brother Akbaruddin routinely indulge in, and their barely suppressed violent streak that surfaces from time to time.
Let there be no doubt – Asaduddin Owaisi is a thinly-veiled Islamist, who’s London education & clipped English accent is just a facade. In 2007, Owaisi and his brother had defended a brutal physical attack launched by their party MLAs and workers on Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen for ‘insulting’ Islam.
Owaisi is smart enough to condemn indefensible Islamist terror organizations like ISIS & the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, as that allows him to appear ‘moderate’ to gullible urban Hindus. But his politics is all about advancing the cause of Islam through political and legal means. Some commentators have called him the ‘Jinnah of modern India‘, although it can be argued that Owaisi is more orthodox and rigid than the semi-atheist Jinnah.
In August 2016, Asaduddin Owaisi revealed his intolerant Islamist core by expressing displeasure at the inclusion of the Ahmadiyya community as a sect of Islam in 2011 Census of India. In Pakistan, Ahmadis are treated as second-class citizens and their mosques are routinely targeted by Sunni extremist groups.
Owaisi brazenly threatened Bharat’s parliament with a ‘third wave of Muslim radicalization’ after the Assam riots of 2012. He is also campaigning for reservation for Muslims in Government jobs and educational institutions, wilfully oblivious to the fact that backward Muslims already get reservations under the OBC quota. In Owaisi’s worldview, the Indian Constitution & State has to bend to meet Muslim demands, and Muslims will only consent to living as Indian citizens as long as Islam is accorded a unique, elevated position in the scheme of things.
This dangerous, communal Islamist, who is furthering criminalisation of politics by giving party tickets to murderers like Taufiq Sheikh, is the rising star of our nation’s liberal HINO (Hindu In Name Only) elite. Need one say more?
