Raghaveshwara Sri – A lifeline To Thousands Of Gous

As many of you are aware, Sri Ramachandrapura Matha recently conducted a huge protest campaign against government’s action of fencing Male Mahadeshwara Hills (MM Hills) in Karnataka and preventing the cows in the area from their natural food in the forest.

Drought, along with this careless decision of state government to fence the hills have worsened the lives of over 70,000 bhartiya native cows. Without fodder and water, gous are on the verge of death, in fact, few hundred gous have given up their life already. Few gous are not in the position to eat the fodder supplied due to weakness, few are unable to walk also, and free medical treatment is being given to such gous.

Saddened by the development, Sri Raghaveshwara Bharati Mahaswamiji of Sri Ramachandrapura Matha decided to protect all the gous at MM Hills region and started supplying fodder every day.

Till date, Matha has supplied more than 1,500 tons of fodder, at 15 different centers, since 33 days. One lorry load carries around 8-9 tons of fodder, costing Rs 50,000. Everyday around 20,000 gous will be fed at the cost of not less than 2.5 lakh rupees.

Upon the call of Sri Swamiji, society has responded in a big way. Thousands of gou devotees have given up one meal per week, many have given up a meal on daily basis. From children to elders to aged people, many have given their jewelry, children stopped eating chocolates and ice-creams for three months, the money saved through these and many other acts, is being utilized to supply fodder.

Fodder demands, requests to open new distributing centers are increasing day by day. With this increasing demand, we would be in need of 1000 truckloads in the coming 60-70 of summer days. Estimation says we will be in need of another Rs 5 Crore to save these gous.

Swamiji is confident of fulfilling their demands if people come forward to support the noble cause of protecting the gous. If thousands of gou devotees #GiveUpAMeal per week for the coming 2 months, and donate the thus saved money to #GouPranaBhiksha.

Gou devotees across Karnataka started ‘Bhikshatana’ i.e. begging for support to this noble cause of protecting the lives of thousands of gous. People walk to every shop and house on streets and explain them this cause, ask to donate for the same.

These are the different fodders we have been supplying:

  • Dried areca leaves already available with our contacts in Dakshina Kannada and Malenad areas of Karnataka
  • Sprouts from North Karnataka area.
  • Jowar leaves
  • Sugar cane grass
  • Green grass by hydroponic cultivation

Other than these, is to contribute money for the fodder.

We all have grown up by drinking cow’s milk and we all are aware our food on the table also has contribution of cow / bull in terms of labour and manure. Can we not at least contribute a little amount for these innocent animals who can’t even express their hunger?

Any amount you feel appropriate is welcome!

With your little help, thousands of Gous will be saved,

With your little help, hundreds of Gou owner families will be saved,

With your little help, we preserve our Gous for the next generation!
