Ever since administration of Padmanabhaswamy temple was taken over by the Supreme court appointed committee from the royals on the basis of a report submitted by Amicus Curiae, various people have pointed out different errors in the report. Many even ask for another separate probe following the removal of Amicus Curiae Gopal Subramaniam from the case stating that his report is based on the statements of corrupt employees.

In this situation, a Rathayatra initiated by Akhila Bharatha Shri Padmanabhadasa Bhaktajana Seva Samiti, an organization representing Sree Padmanabhaswamy’s devotees of all castes and sects, was kickstarted from Ananthapura temple, Kasaragod on 6th May amidst massive crowds with the aim of creating awareness about the case. The Rathayatra is being led by His Holiness the Pushpanjali Swamiyar of Munchira Madam Sree Parameswara Brahmananda Teerthar and various other Sanyasis from several traditions of Hindu dharma. His Holiness Sree Parameswara Brahmananda Teerthar, a sanyasi belonging to Adi Shankaracharya’s (Thodakacharya Parampara) line, is the highest spiritual functionary of Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple.

Organisations like Indic Collective Trust and People For Dharma who are part of Padmanabhaswamy temple case and are fighting for the preservation of traditions and rituals of the millenia old temple have also extended their support to this Rathayatra. The Ratham used for the yatra resembles Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple and a murti of the deity is kept inside it.

The primary objective of the Ratha Yatra is to mobilise 1 Million signatures for a petition with the following demands:

1. Do not open Vault ‘B’ of Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple.
2. Protect the unique customs and traditions of the temple.
3. Honour the irrevocable relation between the Travancore royal family and the temple.
4. Stop the move for bringing the temple under government control.
5. Uphold the rights of the devotees on the temple.
6. Protect the temple ecosystem and develop the temple as a world-class pilgrimage centre for the followers of the Sanatana Dharma.

The Rathayathra will end at Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram on 13th of May after covering various temples & places across all the 13 districts the state.
