Republic Day Event Attacked in Kasganj, UP – 1 Hindu Youth Dead

An ABVP tiranga yatra (flag parade) on the occasion of Republic Day was attacked in Kasganj town of UP by a Muslim mob. The ensuing stone pelting, arson and firing left one person dead and one seriously injured. The deceased has been identified as Chandan.

Hindu youth on around 3 dozen bikes were conducting the flag rally. When they reached Kasganj’s Baddu Nagar, Muslim youth picked up a fight with them. Soon, both sides started manhandling and pelting stones on each other. Seeing the mob swell in size and stone pelting intensifying, the Hindu youth left their bike and fled. 2 shots were fired, causing death of Chandan.

Dozens of vehicles were also damaged in the mob violence – many of them vehicles passing by on Mathura-Bareilly highway. A scrapyard was also set on fire. Police force rushed to the spot to control the situation. Around 6 people have been arrested and the situation in the city continues to be tense. Route of vehicles coming from Agra-Mathura has been changed.
