SFI Assaults & Tears Clothes of Congress-Supporting Girl Student in Alappuzha, Kerala

A girl student received head injuries after being assaulted by SFI (Students Federation of India, CPM’s student body) activists who believed she was starting a unit of KSU (Kerala Students Union – Kerala branch of Congress student body NSUI) in her college.

Meenu Biju, a native of Punnapra in Alappuzha district and student of Alappuzha SD college, was assaulted at the premises of Alappuzha railway station by SFI-DYFI thugs and admitted to medical college after suffering severe injuries.

She said they assaulted her with an iron rod and tore her clothes. She further stated that she was assaulted under direction of SFI leadership from SD college.

Meenu has suffered an injury to the bone behind her ear, and there are injury marks on her body and legs. She was assaulted by thugs who came in bikes when she was returning from a protest in solidarity with a KSU unit president who was assaulted earlier.

Such violence by SFI activists has become a regular feature of college life in Kerala since CPM stormed to power last year. SFI and DYFI target all opponents of CPI-M like ABVP, NSUI and even other Communist bodies like AIYF (student wing of CPI). This factor is often forgotten in the media rush to paint the violence in Kerala as a fight between CPM and BJP/RSS alone.
