In Sri Krishna’s Mathura, Cattle Smugglers Impersonate Municipal Officials to Steal Cows

Cow smugglers are brazenly stealing cows from the holy city of Mathura and taking them to illegal slaughterhouses. A recent campaign launched by the Mathura municipality to take stray cattle to gaushalas (cowsheds) has provided an opportunity for smugglers to impersonate as municipal officials and brazenly steal cattle, reports Hindi daily Amar Ujala.

Farmer Maharam Singh, resident of Parikrama Marg, said that he was taking a stroll at 5 AM when he saw some people loading cattle near Madan Mohanji Mandir onto a Bolero pick-up. He informed police, but they never arrived. Resident of Ramanreti Marg, Gopal Baghel, saw some people loading cattle onto a Matador van in front of his shop at 10 AM – when he questioned them they said they were municipal workers but could not produce any ID proof.

Vipin Bihari Verma, resident of Bankebihari colony, also complained to the 100 police helpline when he saw cattle being stuffed into a vehicle in front of his colony at 6 PM.

Many locals have complained that such instances of cow theft have been occurring in the holy city of Mathura for long. They demanded that the municipality issue identity cards for all workers involved in moving stray cattle to cowsheds. The administration has clarified that its workers only catch the stray cattle from 9.30 AM to 3.30 PM.

Editor’s Note

At a time when left-liberals are claiming that ‘Hindu fascism’ is at its peak under the Modi-Yogi Adityanath duo at centre-state respectively, reports in Hindi media regarding the cow smuggling racket remind us that the ground reality is far different compared to this scare mongering.

When cow smugglers can be so brazen as to routinely steal cattle from Mathura, the birthplace of Sri Krishna – the human avatar of Bhagwan Vishnu – who was a cowherd in his youth and epitomizes the love that each Hindu holds for gau mata (mother cow), yet it is the odd incident of cow protector vigilantism that media incessantly highlights, it clearly shows the agenda at play.
