Two, including Firoz, alleged to have raped mentally challenged woman in Kolkata

A differently-abled woman residing in a home for mentally ill women, was abducted and gang-raped in the dead of night in West Bengal’s capital, Kolkata. As per reports, the incident took place near Panchasayar area on Monday, November 13th

It is reported that the 38-year-old victim broke the locks of the residential home where she was residing and walked out of the gates. She then started walking towards Peerless Inn.

Seeing her alone, a white car pulled by and forced her into the vehicle. She was then gang-raped through the night. “The woman was forced to get inside a vehicle by some people when she was walking alone on the road in Panchashyar police station limits. She alleged that they took her to an unknown place, took her out on a vacant land and repeatedly raped her there,” police personnel said.

She was then brought inside the vehicle again and beaten up. The miscreants then threw her out in a blood-smeared condition in a desolate area under the jurisdiction of Sonarpur Police Station and fled.

The police have reported that some local people spotted the mentally challenged rape survivor early in the morning. They talked to her, bought her a ticket and helped her reach Ballygunge by train. From Ballygunge, she went to a nearby relative’s home.

Her family is suspicious about the claim that she herself broke the lock and walked out of the residential building, wondering how a mentally unstable woman could even break open the lock at night without the noise created by the act being heard by any authorities or security personnel at the home.

The investigating officer confirmed that the victim has been sent for medical tests and CCTV cameras are being checked. Though she couldn’t confirm how many people were there inside the car, it has been reported that one among them was named Firoz. There are possibilities that they were all known to her.

Calcutta Police have not arrested anyone yet. Investigations are still underway. An inquiry committee has been formed by National Commission of Women (NCW) to investigate the case and it will be headed by NCW member Chandramukhi Devi.

West Bengal has turned into a nightmare for women despite having a woman CM in Mamata Banerjee. Be it increasing cases of Love Jihad, raping septuagenarian nuns, or models getting harassed or doctors being attacked by people of a selected minority in the heart of the city, West Bengal, the new hubs of miscreants, is going through trying times under the minority appeasing government.
