Two Muslims and one Minor Arrested for Molesting a Minor Girl in Kolkata

Three people including a minor have been arrested by Kolkata police for physically harassing and molesting a minor girl. The incident was reported around Tuesday midnight from the College Square-Cooltala area in central Kolkata. The arrested adults are Badre Alam (25) and Mohammed Ansar (18).

As per this Times of India report

“All three have been charged under sections 12 and 17 of the stringent POCSO Act and IPC sections 354 (molestation), 354A (sexual harrasment) and 114 (abettor present),” said DC (central) Mithilesh Jain.

According to the police, the girl, a 15-year-old, had come to Sealdah around three days ago. Cops said they are trying to ascertain how she reached there. “On Tuesday night, the accused – a 17-year-old minor managed to befriend the girl. The girl agreed to come along with the minor boy. Two of the accused’s acquaintances – Badre Alam (25) and Md Ansar (18) – also took a ride in the rickshaw van that this minor rode around to earn his living. All the accused hail from Darbhanga in Bihar and has been residing here at Phears Lane.

The four of them came to the PC Sakar Street located close to the College Square area when the minor allegedly began touching the girl indecently against her wishes taking advantage of the darkness. However, when the girl raised an alarm, locals nearby reacted and began to chase the boy,” said a senior investigating officer.

The police said that it was when the accused was trying to flee through Cooltala Street that cops from Bowbazar police who were on night round got alerted by the cries from the victim and nabbed the accused. A police team from Jorasanko went and apprehended the minor. The two majors, too, were arrested. The police said that during questioning the girl claimed it was the minor who had tricked her in to accompanying him. The Muchipara police is helping by scanning CCTV footages in order to ascertain how the crime had been committed.

The two accused who are above 18 years were produced at the special POCSO court at Bankshall court while the child was produced before the juvenile justice board. The girl is likely to be sent to a shelter home after she is released from the Calcutta Medical College Hospital where she has undergone a medical test in order to rule out sexual assault, said police sources.”
