Uttar Pradesh (UP) government has proven that it takes women’s safety seriously. The state’s anti-Romeo police squad sprung into action within half an hour of receiving a sexual harassment complaint via Twitter from a female student who faced harassment in a bus on Monday.
The girl student travelling alone from Lucknow to Basti on a UPSRTC bus faced harassment from two men – Rizwan and Hussain from Muzaffarnagar. As soon as the bus left Lucknow the two accused began bothering the girl by passing indecent comments and pestering her for her phone number when she quietly made a video explaining the entire incident and tweeted the same to both the CM and UP police.
District Magistrate (DM) Anuj Jha and SSP Ashish Tiwari themselves came to the aid of the girl after receiving a phone call from the CM’s Office (CMO). The Ayodhya police got in touch with the girl and stopped the bus at Belsar near Rudauli Police Headquarters on National Highway (NH) 28, and arrested the two accused.
