Will Modi end the self-delusion and deal with Pakistan as the evil it represents?

Pakistani Army beheaded two Bharatiya soldiers and mutilated their bodies along the Line of Control on Monday morning.

The Pakistani side opened fire on the Indian posts in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district, and members of their notorious Border Action Team (BAT) attacked a patrol party, the Indian Army’s Northern Command said in a statement.

Army sources identified Naib subedar Paramjit Singh, a junior commissioned officer (JCO), and Border Security Force head constable Prem Sagar as the dead. Two other BSF soldiers on patrol with them survived .

Pakistani Army has repeatedly shown that it does not care for international norms, and is nothing better than a thinly-veiled version of ISIS. This does not come as surprise, given the jihadi indoctrination of the Pakistani Army at all levels and their view of Hindu-majority Bharat as the eternal enemy.

This is how then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi had reacted to the murder and mutilation of a solider in 2013 –

Defence Minister Arun Jaitley (who also holds the Finance & Corporate Affairs portfolios) has issued routine statements  –

Last year, after the Uri attack in which Pakistani fidayeen terrorists had launched a sneak attack on an Indian Army camp killing 18 soldiers, the Modi government had ordered cross-border strikes on terror launching pads in PoK. The strikes were welcomed across the country, but it was clear to anyone with even basic knowledge of Pakistan that one such strike was not going to make Pakistan mend its jihadi ways of bleeding Bharat with a thousand cuts.

We had recommended even back then that the only way to deal with Pakistan is to snap all ties with it –

“Recall our ambassador, send their ambassador back, suspend all talks indefinitely, seal the border, stop the Wagah rigmarole, snap all trade links, stop issuing visas to Pakistanis, impose a complete economic embargo on Pakistan.

Snapping all ties with Pakistan is the first, immediate step that we need to take in response to Uri. Other options like military counter-measures can be employed at the appropriate time as deemed fit by our security forces. Our conflict with Pakistan will take decades to solve – it will be a war of attrition that will be fought on many fronts. We have to fight to win and defeat the radical Islamist forces that Pakistan represents. But the first step is to have complete clarity on the nature of the enemy & the existential threat it represents.

Bharat’s insidious left-liberal gang will argue that the latest crime by Pakistan shows that surgical strikes didn’t achieve anything, and that we must return to the negotiating table with Pakistan. But the real learning is that one surgical strike was never going to change Pakistan. Even full-scale war will not help if we don’t have clear goals of what we are trying to achieve – else we will just squander hard fought gains like we did in 1971 by letting 90,000 Pakistani prisoners of war go for free. This is a lengthy, multi-decade, attritional cold (and hot, as needed) war that we have to fight at all levels, not just military.

Bharat has to grow out of its Gandhian delusion and see the world as it is, not as we wish it to be. We can’t expect the world to deal with Pakistan as a terror state when we ourselves can’t muster the gumption to declare it as such.

Narendra Modi was elected with a thumping majority for one reason above all else – to shake up the Nehruvian establishment which rules us from Lutyens’ Delhi. It was thought that one of the easiest things to change in this regard is our Pakistan policy. But one surgical strike & some sabre-rattling on Balochistan and Indus Water Treaty apart, nothing has changed in concrete terms when it comes to dealing with a rogue state like Pakistan.

Here is a reminder of what Pakistan did to Lt. Saurav Kalia of the Indian Army during the 1999 Kargil war, and how his aged father is still running to get justice for his son –

“In gross violation of the Geneva Convention the Pakistani Army subjected Captain Kalia and his soldiers to horrendous torture during which the bravehearts’ ear drums were pierced with hot iron rods, eyes punctured and genitals cut off. The autopsy of the bodies also revealed that they were burned with cigarettes butts. Their limbs were also chopped off, teeth broken and skull fractured during the torture. Even their nose and lips were cut off.

But even after such incriminating evidence the Indian government is yet to take Pakistan to task. In a huge blow to the martyrs, the Central government has refused to move the International Court of Justice against the treatment meted out to the war heroes.

The Narendra Modi government has said that moving the ICJ against Pakistan in the matter is not ‘practical’. The Centre’s reaction comes after Captain Kalia’s family had demanded for an international probe in the Supreme Court.”

It is time for Narendra Modi to walk his pre-election talk. Bharat needs to deal with Pakistan like South Korea does with North Korea – as a deranged, dangerous nation that needs to be contained, isolated, and eventually disintegrated.
