BJP leader Kirit Somaiya heckled while attempting to visit Arnab in jail

Ex-MP and BJP leader Kirit Somaiya was heckled and manhandled when he tried to meet Republic TV Chief Editor Arnab Goswami, who has been arrested in relation to an already closed case, lodged at the Alibaug jail yesterday evening.

In the above video the ex-MP, who had travelled from Mumbai to Alibaug to visit the arrested journalist Goswami, can be seen being heckled, pushed and manhandled by the police officers which doesn’t augur well for the democracy.

Tweeting about the incident, Somaiya condemned the arrests of social media activists and the Republic TV chief one after the other. Speaking to the press, he said: “I’m saddened by the incident of today and the treatment meted out to a journalist. I condemn the goondagiri (rowdy behaviour) of the Thackeray government’s police force”.

He also added that the way the Uddhav Thackeray led MVA (Maha Vikas Aghadi) government was journalists and social media activists and also heckling people reminded him of the 1975 emergency days. This government has been sending activists and journalists to jail and is making them run from one police station to another which is how people were treated during the Emergency imposed by then PM Indira Gandhi.

The BJP leader added that they met the Raigad SP (Superintendent of police) at Alibaug and are convinced that the case was reopened with the intention to purposely heckle Goswami. In his tweet, Somaiya pointed out that the case was reopened on 15th October without permission from the court and also when there was no new important information or proof that had come to light. He said that Goswami was illegally arrested by Uddhav Thackeray led MVA government without giving the former an opportunity to give clarification.
