Did MVA govt let 1000 tonnes of pulses sent by Centre rot?

BJP MLA Mihir Kotecha has alleged that during the lockdown last year the central government sent chana dal (split chickpeas) under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana but the entire stock sent by the Centre rotted in the state warehouse. He claimed that 1000 tonnes of dal were damaged in this manner in the state due to the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA (Maha Vikas Aghadi) govt which should’ve been used for feeding the poor.

“If the state government would have instructed to distribute these pulses on time, many families would have benefited today,” Mihir said in the video. Mihir Kotecha has also demanded an immediate inquiry into the negligence of those responsible for this and additionally asked for the resignation of the concerned Minister Chhagan Bhujbal.

In 2020, as the Covid-19 (China Virus) cases in states across the country increased, a national wide lockdown was imposed to control it. During this period many citizens lost their jobs and many had to face great financial crisis. During the crisis, the central government had sent foodgrains to all states including Maharashtra under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana’ to be distributed free of cost to the poor across the country.

It also sent a large quantity of chana dal to be distributed among the poor with each family being given one kg dal. After the distribution of foodgrains received from the central government to those eligible as per their ration cards, the foodgrains meant for citizens who did not take them remained in the warehouses and shops of the state government. This dal is now rotten and infested with insects thereby leading to a huge wastage.

In the Mumbai suburbs, 300 tonnes of pulses received from the central government are lying in government warehouses and shops, most of  which have been largely rotted. It is literally infested with insects and is no longer usable. Kotecha has alleged that across the state 1000 tonnes of such rotten pulses are lying in godowns and shops only due to the negligence of the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government.
